By setting admission standards, is UC discriminating against religious schools? The relgious schools think so, and thus the lawsuit!

Standards always discriminate against people. I suppose an issue here is can a state school system do that?

A state school absolutely has the right to set academic standards. They always have and they always will. The question in this case is, have these courses been rejected because they are lacking academically, or because of their religious content? If it's the former, then the university is doing its job; if it's the latter, then the university is guilty of discrimination.

Here's a quote from the article that sums up the problem quite nicely: UC policy, Patti explained, was to make "a distinction between courses that study religion in an academic way and courses that are intended to instruct in religious faith."

I imagine it can be difficult sometimes to determine which is which.

I believe that the UC system will win this one.

Is UC applying its academic requirements to these Christian schools and their students the same way they do to other schools? If so, UC will prevail and this lawsuit will go away.

Bingo! We have a winner here!
