How do I know this? Cuz I'm the guy who wrote the article. This is Jeff Green, editor-in-chief at CGW, and was just alerted to the fact that this article has been posted here. Now, I'm a reasonable guy and also a smart guy, so I knew the article would get scanned and posted right away. I can deal.

However, the scanner dude who did this could have at least had the decency to give credit where credit is due, don't you think? We worked hard on that article, and while I suppose I *could* be a d**k here and ask you guys to take it down, I'm not, because along with being the editor of the mag, I'm also a huge WoW fan and like sharing the info anyway. All I want to do is have it at least acknowledged by the poster where he got it from. Kinda uncool to take our name off.

Okay, I'm done. And I'm off to BlizzCon! Yay!

And this isn't a joke post, btw--you can email me at jeff_green@ziffdavis.com if you want me to confirm, though I won't be able to answer ya until I get back from BlizzCon.

Thanks.

From Murrie's link... The formatting will probably be real weird in this quote.

Several years have passed since the Burning Legion's defeat at Mount Hyjal and the races of Azeroth have continued to rebuild their once shattered lives. With renewed strength, the heroes of the Horde and Alliance have begun to explore new lands and broken through the Dark Portal to investigate the realms beyond the known world. Will these heroes find friends or foes? What dangers and rewards lie in wait beyond the Dark Portal? And what will they do when they discover that the demons they thought vanquished have returned to renew their terrible Burning Crusade?

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade is the exciting new expansion to Blizzard's award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game. It expands the game by tremendous bounds, adding new races, lands, Battlegrounds, professions and items, and more. Here is just a partial list of what you can expect from the World of Warcraft expansion:
An increase in the level cap to 70
Two new playable races, including the magical Blood Elves
New starting zones in Quel'Thalas and beyond
The entire new continent of Outland, reachable through the
Dark Portal
Many new high-level dungeons to explore in Azeroth,
Outland, and elsewhere
New flying mounts in Outland
Many new and dangerous monsters, including epic world
bosses
Hundreds of new quests
Hundreds of new items
A new profession: Jewelcrafting
Socketed items
And much, much more...

Raising the level cap to 70!!!!! Why do I suspect that this will happen the day I finally ding 60? And does that mean we will be finally able to hit those harder dungeons? If MC can be beaten with 40 level 60 toons, can we beat it with 20 level 70 toons? Or will it not matter because MC loot is all crappy level 60 stuff and we need new ublar level 70 stuff?

The socketting thingy makes me nervous. It's cool and all, but it made me crazy in Diablo2. If they make it like enchanting, where you can overwrite a crappy enchant with a better enchant, then I will be fine, but if the socketting is a permanent deal, like it was in Diablo2 it will just make me nuts. Its so hard to get ublar items, I just can't bear to do anything permanent to them that I might regret later. Like, Omg I socketted my windfury with perfect topazes and now I realize I should have used a Ith rune instead!!!

yerp , im excited and nervous about the sockets too ...

A guy at work told me this too, It's just about the dumbest thing they could do! It will trivialize all current end-game instances and items. Imagine if DAoC had raised the level cap, you could have gone and done a 2 man raid on Legion, or a group of nightshades to kill the dragon.

im guessing they were smart enough to plan for that ... but we will see i guess ...

Murrie

10-12 new instances will be open by and with the expansion, and even at level 70 BWL will NOT be trivial. MC maybe, but thats not such a bad thing...

Onyxia will be much simpler, but that too isnt such a bad thing, and with a couple minor changes could be made nearly as challenging as it is now.

So, by raising the level cap to 70... does that mean that all the equipment people have been farming so they'd be all purple is now obsolete?

Like a lvl 50 in daoc wearing lvl 40 equipment?

Wow really is the new EQ

Murrie

the teir two purple stuff will probably still be slightly better than the blue stuff you will get questing at level 70, and will definately be better than nearly all of the stuff youll get durring the 61-69 levels -
New purple shit outta the new instance(s) will make the MC gear obsolete - but I would expect that the even at level 70 the teir 1 set will still be very much worth wearing...

but having the purple phattyness outta MC and BWL will speed up the climb to 70 a great deal and make the newer content easier than someone that hits 61 with the Teir0 blue set outta upper...

I guess it's good for the pve'ers.

Murrie

NOPE!!! The entire new planet is PVP - NO "Safe" areas...

Boom
10-28-2005, 04:39 PM
The new zone where all the action happens (outlands or something like that) is totally pvp. That's kinda cool. When I am 65-70 I don't think I will mind having to deal with PvP while questing. The people ganking the questers won't be that much higher level then the people trying to quest. When I was level 15 and couldn't finish a quest without getting ganked by level 60 toons it was just really frustrating.

Or when a full group of us at level 40ish were trying to get the ancient egg and after fighting for hours to get there, got wiped out by a single level 60 poophead.....

You won't have to worry about it on DB anyway I wouldn't think. Just don't flag yourself for pvp.

Still, it's a pve expansion.

malkovich
10-28-2005, 04:45 PM
nope mO ... its a PvP area regardless of server type ...

pvp has been non-existent since the BG's have been implemented anyway. don't worry about it.

"This time, we really want to make sure there's lots of end game dungeons and raids"

That's a pve expansion.

(... note that the flying mounts only work in Outland.)

i'm way excited about this expansion and the level cap increase

blood elves... meh

not true - open pvp still happens all the time if you know where to go

unless things have changed drastically in the last month, i doubt its that crazy. i hadnt seen enough pvp to make me want to log off since bg started. the pvp before that was enough to make people leave the server not just the session. pvp in wow is not even worthwhile outside of bgs. and probably wont be. ever. moo.

Not a big fan of raising the level cap. It shows a weakness in the design. How many expansions did we get in DAOC with no level cap increase? Add dungeons, better loot, new compelling pvp areas, but leave the level cap the same.

malkovich
10-28-2005, 08:34 PM
i think the design was for a level cap increase right from the start ...

Allison

Yeah, I'm kinda bummed about the level increase. I mean, with all the freakin quests I've turned in since I hit 60, I should be 70 already! All that xp, down the drain. *sigh*
