Don't freak out yet Mo. Doomsday theories have existed as long as the human race :)

Edit. I will say one thing, though. If this is true, I will be having A LOT OF SEX in 2013

Phew, I'm glad I'm safe. As long as Kasey doesn't dump me, then I won't be dying as a person who hasn't had sex in a long time.

it would be just as bad if the cloud misses us and consumes other planets ( == desaster for the balance of our orbit arround the sun) or even the sun (== death of all life anyway).

we need a planetary deflector shield! ^^

You did all notice that this article was courtesy "Weekly World News"?

Home of "I had Elvis' two-headed, alien Monkey Baby".

An asteroid is a large rock in OUR Galaxy. Trying to observe an asteroid in another Galaxy or another solar system would be like trying to spot a grain of sand on pluto with a pair of reading glasses.

Oh and if it was distroying asteroids, that would mean it must be in our solar system. Traviling at the speed of light would mean it would hit us in a matter of hours not years lol.

oh and like fig said, its from the Yahoo tabloid section so umm yeah lol. Funny read, i enjoyed it.

As the resident expert in noxious gas clouds, I must reiterate that this article is in fact the real thing.

As the resident expert in noxious gas clouds, I must reiterate that this article is in fact the real thing.

Morety would be the leading expert on that matter.

You don't believe that hokey website you just posted up over my reliable information do you Yarr?

Only thing wrong with that article is had it been true the universe would be doomed. As the cloud moved it would continue to grow with the consumption of matter. The trail it left behind would in essence become the dissolving cloud.

the problem with the article is the following.

cloud comes towards us at close to light speed. on its way it eats up suns, planets whatever.

according to the article they watched it eat an asteroid.

how can we watch it doing that?

at time X it eats the asteroid. the light needs Y years to reach us. therefor only at time X+Y we would be able to see it eating the asteroid. now if its close to light speed the cloud will arrive shortly after we saw it eat the asteroid. therefor it cant really hit us in 2014. it probably should have hit us already.

also if it comes from the center of the galaxy it had to destroy alot of other star systems on its way to us. that would have created some serious imbalances in the way the stars or the whole galaxy for that matter behave. of course that would require that the effects caused by changed gravity travels faster than light. hum :p

Morety there is only one way to blast that cloud back, and you are the only man that can do it.

I don't get it, why is a cloud gonna CONSUMER the earth?

because we are not fast enough to consume it on our own

This is simple to correct.

We'll need to get Morety to eat a few cans of Bush's Baked Beans. He'll then have to bend over facing the approaching cloud and cut loose.

He'll either propel the earth away from it or push the cloud away. Either way we are safe.
