Nothing fancy, just looking for 5.1 sound, lan, sata. More interested in knowing good manufactor's nowadays.

If you just have headphones or two speakers onboard sound does just fine, 5.1 is mostly useless to those with no speaker system.

ASUS is what I always used until my most recent upgrade. Never ever had a problem with it.

3.4.. meaning AMD64 3400+ right?
