So I built myself a new system that I call "Second Best", since I went for what I thought was the second best choice for all components.
ASUS A8V-SLI motherboard.
Athlon 64 4000+ CPU.
4 x Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 for 2GB DDR 400 RAM
Radeon X800XT video card.
WD Caviar SE SATA hard drive 160 GB @7200 RPM.
LG GSA-4160B DVD writer.
The rest of the components (monitor, keyboard, etc) were inherited from my old system. I must say I am pleased with the performance.

You should get a welder, and other metal working tools then turn your tower into a big devils head with horns and get some red LED lights to put into the devils eyes and put red lighted lisence plate frames and put those all inside all lit up. Then put a fog machine inside of it and speakers that play random satanic slogan and noises and messages. Then put it up high and worship it, HAIL SATAN!!! You can name is LUCIFER, LORD OF THE DEEP!!! HAIL SATAN HAIL SATAN!!! KILL KILL KILL!! HAIL SATAN! HAIL SATAN!!!

A) Not a big fan of ASUS. Go with MSI (or ABIT).
B) I don't like Kingston (prefer OCZ, then Crucial or Corsair) RAM
C) It's better to get 2x 1GB sticks than 4x 512MB (ram speeds decrease with 4, typically)
D) Why the SATA 7200RPM 160GB? Get a RAPTOR II (74GB for system & games) & a 250GB for data
E) El-cheapo DVD burner; go with the NEC 3520.
Why get SLI if you're going to get an ATI card (throwing money away)? Get a pair of nVidia 6800GT's.
The performance difference between a 64 4000+ and 64 3500+ doesn't warrant twice the price - but I suppose if you're going big.. may as well.
Just my 2¢

All those things don't matter if you make the thing into a devil head. THe components don't mean shit when you got that tower loaded with red light, speakers, and smoke machines. HAIL SATAN HAIL SATAN HAIL SATAN!!!
