Summary:

You can win any bid by having a full mailbox. If someone tries to outbid you, the system can't send you the out-bid msg, and the attempt fails. Once the bid has expired, remove a msg and receive the item.

This appears to have been around for a while. But now that it's in the open, maybe they'll finally fix it.

There also appears to be a COD bug being exploited, so don't CoD your stuff to anybody.

what ??? i can fill up the mailbox? how many mails is that? ive been using it as a secondary bank, at least for 30 days...

Yea I read about that when I was browsing the bugs forum a few weeks back. Thats why I use the AH as a consignment merchent more or less... Put the start bid at the sellout price so I get what I want for the item.

Some people are reporting the bug as either fixed or bogus with some preliminary testing of about 300 mails sent, but failing to fill the mailbox.
