ZoneAlarm weirdness???

I de-intalled Zone Alarm and my connection speed on my cable went from 200-400 to 500-800 kbps. :confused:

I had noticed some problems with ZoneAlarm interferring with other applications a long time ago. So I took it out of startup and I haven't used it for for a while.

But then Grundy noticed that he had to start ZoneAlarm, and then turn it off before he could connect to the internet. So he un-installed it, got higher kbps...then I un-installed it, and got higer kbps too.

I know a lot of us use this. And I'm wondering if it has something to do with the linkdead issue. *shrug* I guess we'll see.

If you are connected to the internet with a game, irc, voice com or something and then turn on ZA the security features in ZA kills everything connected, so that you have to restart it. You really shouldn't have to turn ZA off for anything though if you have it set to medium security. I keep ZA running all the time for games and voice come and otherwise use ZA+Black ICE.

I have never known ZA to affect pings in any way, so I wouldn't think uninstalling it would cause pings to rise. Weird. I assume you have ht elatest version of ZA? Also what OS are you using? I have 98se on this machine with ZA version 2.6.231

Same settings as you, Papa.

And I did have to turn ZA for some apps. For example, I couldn't run a scandisk with ZA on. I couldn't even run scandisk with ZA turned off. I had to remove all its components from startup, or else scandisk would stop and restart every 5 mins.

I have never run scan disk other than after having my comp crash on me (I wouldn't run it then either except for the fact that I can't exit scandisk) Am I missing anything good? :p

Maybe you need to leave DAoC behind and come back to Papa Bangin in UT land! :cheese:

Well, my pings are definitely better. But I still have the ld problem. Weird tho, I go ld more at non-peak times. And at peak times like 6 p.m. to midnight I'm usually fine. *shrug*
