found this macro for applying poisons. should be helpful for all you rogues out there.


/script UseContainerItem(Bag,Slot); PickupInventoryItem(16);
UseContainerItem(Bag,Slot);
PickupInventoryItem(17);

for Bag, enter the bag number. bag numbers goes as follows:

[4][3][2][1][0]

for Slot. slot numbers goes as follows (for 10 slot bag):
_____[1][2]
[3][4][5][6]
[7][8][9][10]

example. say i have crippling in bag 4, slot 1 and instant poison in bag 4, slot 2. this is the macro.

/script UseContainerItem(4,1); PickupInventoryItem(16);

2nd poison
/script UseContainerItem(4,2); PickupInventoryItem(17);

this will apply crippling on mainhand and instant poison on offhand.

Note: inventoryitem 16 is mainhand, inventoryitem 17 is offhand.

I thought about using a macro for that but I use too many poisen types too often, I might wanna switch from cripple/instant to wound/instant or mind numb/cripple or instant/instant etc

I just have all my poisens loaded on my hot bar and with cosmos I have the two weapons displayed near my hot bar, so I can click whichever I want and load it on which ever blade without opening my char info/item screen. I can even do it mid fight like say a pally jumps me I can blind him, load wound and mind numb switch weps and load 2 instants before the blind wears off. Or if he's 20 levels higher like normal I just run :)

It will help against me. Hunters have one trick to beat rogues who get the jump on them. Melee snare and run to range and shoot. If you land that poison snare on me, I got nothing. Sure I can snare you, but if I am snared too then I can't get out of melee. It's actually pretty balanced since the poison isn't a guaranteed hit. If a rogue gets the jump on me, he should have a good chance of winning no matter how skilled I am and the snare poison allows that. But I should have some chance of getting away and if the snare poison misses and I got skills then I can get away.

Daoc never had that kind of balance with stealthers. When my nightshade's pimphand was strong (before everyone had spellcrafted stuff), if I got the jump on a squishy I winned. They would have to be really really lucky to survive. When my nightshade's pimphand was weak (after spellcrafting), squishies could survive my initial attack and I would have to be really really lucky to win. That's why assassins in daoc stopped assassinating everyone and just stuck to stealther v stealther wars. It was dumb. This is much cooler. At least hunter v rogue balance, I don't know about other classes. But if rogue jumps me and snare poison lands, he got a 90% chance of winning, and that is cool because if someone jumps you from stealth and poisons you, you should die for cryin out loud. But if the poison misses, we got a good fight on our hands and that is cool because it makes it fun. No encounter should always be a 100% guaranteed win (like it was when my nightshade's pimp hand was strong).

I don't have a problem with rogues.

Soon as one tries to jump me I hit Fear. If they don't resist (rare that they do) I cast my 2 DoT's on them and start running. If they're dumb enough to chase me, I run and let the dot work til my fear's up again. Then I stop and lay a nuke on them as they close into me, then cast Fear again.

All the rogues I've been up against have been really stupid except for one.

Lesson for rogues vs. priests: Start off with a stun and have high shadow resists.

For mage it's just blink, sheep and rogue have less then 10% of winning with the old AP (+35% damage) + fireball and 3instas following up. 2 rogues now that's a doozer hehe.

Warlocks eat rogues for dinner IF we have our succubus pet.

I always try to have it.
My succubus is almost always invisible via it's self invis spell.

I think many people think casters in WoW are squishies. Sure you may hit for more damage vs cloth, maybe more than you see vs monsters.. but I dont have the HPs of a squishie. I know that many affliction warlocks, and most warlocks, rely on health for mana conversion to reduce downtime, so we FOCUS on stamina, usually besting most cookie cutter warriors.

When a stealther jumps me.. via sap, stun, back stab or whatever, I worry nothing about being interrupted or dying too fast (I have mucho much hps) I just quickly seduce the rogue using the succubus.. boom 15 seconds to heal back. up.. reach max distance.. and begin my rogue killing enslaught.

Series of dots from max range, pet is already on the stealther doing more dps. and if the rogue wishes to charge me, i can always fear at any point of the engagement.

If i am jumped by 2 rogues?
I have won in the past, but I shouldnt have, they needed more rogue skills.

Rogues.. If you see a warlock, and you can see his succubus.. sap the warlock.. kill the pet.

At least you remove her mez and dps, and even out the fight a bit.

I end up doing a lot of pvp these days. and by far... my chalenges lie only with Highly skilled players and classes who tend to resist sustained damage (Paladins and priests) I just tend to fear those or mez them and run away. Too much trouble.

Answer is not rouge skills there... It is highlighting a very visible issue if you read this thread. For me to beat a warrior or a rouge for that matter I need to be spamming about 4 different buttons just to make sure the melee guy can not get next to me, along with 3 or 4 different damage spells. Everything has to be timed right and done in the correct order or I die.

Priests and Warlocks just spam fear and the fight is done :/

They need to make fear break on damage, like mage sheep does. Sheep also can only be cast on someone 2 times before they become immune to it now too.

Fear has a max of 8 seconds. Sheep has a max of..... forever;) or until hit. Big difference.

Once you cast sheep you have a ton of time to drink a pot quickly, and the timer may be up so you get a second shot before the fight's over. You can use bandages, sit, drink melon juice etc etc etc and throw in a few spam laughs.

Aas, you can pretend that you use the succubutt pet because of some kind of strategy or whatever, but we all know its because of the boobies.

Could you make a macro/script that goes off based on a event? Like could one be made that casts my Overpower ability if a mob I am fighting dodges?

as a holy / disc. priest. im a pretty worthless pvp anyway. but fear while helpful does take like 30 secs to regen. thats a dang long time depending on the person you are fightin. i wish i could spam it. that would be helpful :D i've also been noticing fears breaking on damage, either that or its the increased chance to break that blizz nerfed it with at the last patch (like all cc spells, iirc.)

i could be wrong. but it seem like a good portion of pvp is who the aggressor is, i dont gank and dont really go out of my way to pvp now (pointless) so this isnt a fully tested theory. but as the attackee, the defensive postion in pvp is pretty tough to over come. im guessing thats teh case for most people. that leads lots of peeps to kos i guess. :)

no sheep lasts like 8 seconds, just as sap and fear do.

They nerfed sheep the last patch as well as everything else. You no longer have time to sit and med... Also sheep breaks on damage unlike fear. As of now the best form of CC in the game is fear.

I don't know how fear works for other classes... and I am neither pro nor con when it comes to fear, its just simply a tool that I use as a warlock, and I will continue using it until blizzard says otherwise.

Warlock fear: the basics.

Fear (Rank 2)
55 Mana 23 yd range
1.5 sec cast
Strikes fear in the enemy, causing it to run in fear for up to 15 sec. Damage caused may interrupt the effect.

and soon at lvl 40

Howl of Terror (Rank 1)
150 Mana
2 sec cast 40 sec cooldown
Howl, causing 5 enemies within 10 yds to flee in terror for 10 sec. Damage caused may interrupt the effect.


PvE - Fear not so hot. Good only in wide open areas, else CC becomes an auto-pulling tool. I only use fear in PvE if its a last resort.

PvP - Its not everything, but close. I actually use my succubus mez first to gain control of a fight. But I use fear for eveything else when I need to even out the odds.. It does break with damage.. and checks on each tick, however as of now it usually works for at least 30-100% of its full 15 sec duration, even fully dotted.

One on one.. fear plus mez makes most 1v1 encounters stupidly easy.
one vs three.. it just makes survival much more likely.

In a group in pvp. It's a battle winner, any time on a 5 on five skirmish, and you can fear 1 or 2 and make it a 5 vs 4 or a 5 vs 3 battle, fear becomes paramount.

Then again despite the godly fear spell I still die in pvp, OFTEN, so its not an instant win. It just has easy application.

Not many rogues are set up for PvP right now. I hope your not basing your current pwnage to what you might find later on at the end game.

I am pretty easy to beat right now to pretty much anyone, my armor is junk, my weps are junk, my skills are spent here and there for what I thought would help PvE the best and im not usually carrying the proper PvP potions nor do I usually have the correct poisen on my blades for which ever PvP encounter happens to find me while Im grinding away.


Later on I'll have more PvP tools to work with and so will every other rogue out there. Right now however I would classify rogues as one of the worst PvP stand alone classes out there.

Not many rogues are set up for PvP right now. I hope your not basing your current pwnage to what you might find later on at the end game.

I base everything on what I have experienced to date. I wouldnt from my experiences so far assume I would always be able to own rogues. But it is kinda disturbing, thinking that rogues arent set up for PvP until lvl 60. I think thats unfortunate. I had hoped to fight even battles all the way to 60. It'd make me a better PvPer.

Then again, I think It's unfortunate that you have to choose between a PVE and a PVP talent set. I'd hoped most classes would be able to make a very playable/enjoyable hybrid of both PvE and PvP success.

I guess Warlocks just got lucky. It seems that the the most common warlock spec types... Affliction ...is effective in both PvE and PVP...

As so far as lvl 36 of course. :)
