View Full Version : This page is unavailable.
I type a post and click submit and get sent to a page that says "this page is unavailable." Then I click "back" and my whole post is gone. This just started happening recently (a week or two ago???) and it seems to be happening more frequently. I don't think its something on my end because it happens at work on the laptop and at home on my desktop. Its reaaaaaally annoying. I am trying to get in the habit of clicking "copy" on my entire posts before I click submit, just in case it gets wiped, but sometimes I forget and lose a whole post. I just saw a thread where Ailia said it happened to her, so now I know its not just me.
Did we recently upgrade our forum software or something? Anything new happen that might have introduced this problem? If I just gotta live with it, I can deal. I will just be better about copying everything before I click submit. But if this is something that can be fixed it would be sweet.

Happening to me too Boom. I just copy it all once i am done. It usually happens when I take a long time to write something out, or write a long post, almost as if the session times out.

That happens to me all the time, Boom. I think it has to do with how long you're on without "activity" - the stupid board auto-logs you out or something.
Whenever I finish a post here, I copy it just in case. I've been doing that ever since I started posting here. It's the only board I'm on that does it - but the copy trick works.

You post here Aas?
Frequently by some standards, infrequently by others.

It happens to me as well. I thought it was just the system at work since at home I always type out all my post in Word first.

Hey guys, does this only happen at this forum? Or does it happen at other forums as well?
Have you noticed it today at all (Saturday)?
I've only noticed it on this forum. This is my first post of the day so it hasn't happened yet today. Actually, it hasn't happened in a few days but I don't think I have written any monster huge posts in the last few days.

It used to happen a long time ago when I worked at Applied, it was the proxy server.
I haven't had it happen here, ever.
The board will only time you out after about 10 minutes. I'm sure you're not typing that long.

Ok, I have never had it happen either, but that's not saying much.
The server has been under a DDoS attack for the last week or so, and the DC has been mitigating most of it. It could possibly be related, but I dunno yet.

I've had it happen, but it probably was from starting a message and going back to it, definitely after 10 minutes. Sometimes I start to reply but get distracted by work and come back to finish it later, only to lose the message. Makes sense now.
Ahhh yeah that could be it. Sometimes I start a message and alt-tab to do real work for a while then come back to it later.

Yeah Boom - that's what it is for me too. It's really stupid and annoying. I get interrupted 426 times a day at work with one thing or another and whenever I get back to finishing the message, I get that stupid error.
There must be a setting somewhere - this is the only BBS I post to that does that.

Obviously, the problem is stopping to do real work. Soon as I get fired, all my problems will be gone.

I can change it, but it would have far reaching consequences. Not being a PHP programmer, finding and preventing those things tied in would not be feasible.
Al?
I could change it from 10 to 15 without too much worry... but if it takes longer than 10 minutes to make a post, I highly recommend cut & paste (& a .txt file if you need your buffer for other things).
As for other forums NOT doing it... I've noticed other forums having problems that I'm afraid of intitiating here if I do up it too high (read threads not displayed correctly, etc...)
If changing it would cause more problems, then please leave it alone. I have absolutely zero problem with a 10 min timeout. Now that I know how it works, I shouldn't ever have an issue. If I think its been about 10 min or more, I cut and paste no problem.
When I started this thread, I had no idea how it worked and thought it might be a bug or something. If it happened randomly (like I thought) then that would have to be fixed because who wants to have to cut and paste for every single thread? But if its "working as intended" with a 10 min timeout and saves us from having other problems, then its all good. :)

It's definitely not a timeout issue all together. Timeouts may be part of the problem but I just accessed the site after coming back from lunch and typed in a three sentence response and it then gave me the error. New IE session and all that jazz, since I close all my stuff down prior to heading out for lunch. It also happened yesterday but I had been accessing this forum, went to another website using the same IE session and then used the backspace key to hit up the forums again; I had assumed that maybe the use of backing into the forums may have caused an issue but today has either shed light on another problem or debunked my first assumption.
Now at work I'm going through a proxy, which may also be another area that could cause this type of activity. Especially since lately www.msn.com (http://www.msn.com/) has constantly come up with DNS errors here at work. Though that may be entirely unrelated.

I really don't think this is a timeout issue. If it were, you should get a vbulletin error of some sort. But from what you are saying, you get an HTTP error and get a default error page from IE, correct?
For what it's worth, I waited more than 10 minutes between hitting "reply" and actually submitting this reply.

I've gotten seen proxy problems with proxy servers. I don't think it's just vBulletin, but I used to have the problem all the time at work (through Proxy) with PuF.
The HTTP header indicates a don't cache command, so the proxy shouldn't be interfering, but it does, apparently.
