Interesting article (http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/12/02/pentagon.media/index.html) highlighting the US Military use of allegedly manipulating CNN with a fake story on Faluja aimed at insurgents as the target audience.
The article talks about how a single person is in charge of briefing news media and with psychological operations aimed at enema which causes a lack of credibility. So they are proposing separating the two job functions.
This just in:
The Pentagon's Center for Bad Infomation is saying the US is pulling out. In other news the Pentagons Center for Good Information is saying the Pentagons Center for Bad Information is just kidding.

i saw something about that the other day, personally i think its a great idea.
That's cool, so we just gotta figure out which of the two Pentagon guys is the news media guy and believe what he says. We can also listen to the disinformation guy for kicks and stuff. Just don't let the enemy find out which is which. That part is a secret.

They should be doing that. There is no need for the media to know everything. The media is just as much a part of this war as anyone else and if you can minipulate them in order to save lives than I'm all for it. I would rather be misinformed then know anything and everything if it means this war will be safer, and shorter. Anyone who would object to this is a complete fucking idiot and should get punched in the face. These people are upset that they didn't tell the correct information on when the troops would be attacking Falluja, I back that 100%. I'm sick of the media knowing anything and everything about where and how our troops are fighting and everything else, it's goddamn ridiculous. Screw the media, manipulate the hell out of em. I'm all for it.

I agree to a limited degree with Roscoes. Although I do agree there is a need to surpress information I do think we need to remain informed. Part of our job as Americans is to hold our government accountable. There is no way to do that if we do not have the information required.

That is not true. Nothing is stoping you from signing up in the military or pursuing an investigative journalism career. There is no gestapo looking mofo that is threatening your family with death if you don't stop publishing pictures of the war or whatever.
Now if you are looking to the Pentagon to supply the information required to hold the Pentagon accountable for their actions, well then you are in a dream world.
Remember your boy said .... "I did NOT have sexual relations with that women....." and he wagged his little finger at us. I wonder if you applied the same standard to him?

the government should be giving us accurate information, but in this case the military used disinformation (SOP in the intelegence world) which hopefully resulted in more enemy killed and more american soldiers saved. I have no problem being kept in the dark and given incorrect information regarding our militaries movements and actions if that assists them in those missions and helps to save lives.
The military needs to be able to do whatever it needs to in order to win, after the war is over we can argue about how right it is, but in the middle of a war lie your ass off to me, if it saves 1 american soldiers life i have 0 problem with it.

We need to fight that propoganda war machine known as Al Jazeera.
Of course we need to feed disinformation to the enemy. That is one of the most effective weapons ever invented. After the fighting is over though, the Pentagon should come out and tell us the truth, unless the information is still protecting lives somehow.

I don't know if Geraldo agrees with that.

some stuff might need to be kept hidden, but your right it should all be released for review and discussion and possible action if needed.

What information do you want? This is the information age, assume anything we know is known by the enemy. The less we know about operations in Iraq, the less the enemy know, and the safer our troops are. You or I have no right, or need to know about operations in Iraq, so supression of that info is warrented.
