sucks bad. may be the worst game ever made.
Well, I was playing with Noleader, Ailia, and Grundy the other day. We were doing this quest where you had to kill a bunch of spiders to collect spider legs. We had loot set up so anyone could grab the loot. Since we are the biggest liberal loons on the forums, and liberals are practically communists, and NO ONE loves to share like communists, we figured it doesn't matter who grabs the loot since we can all share. Republicans might want to set the loot for round robin, so you take turns. Actually, that is too communist for Republicans. You should probably set the loot for leader only. The leader then gets all the loot, which is fair since he is the leader. Since he is the leader, he is wiser and better than everyone else in the group and can make better use of the loot anyway.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, after a while Noleader and I had all the spider legs we needed but Ailia and Grundy were still short some. So we just kept killing spiders but it was slow going. Someone said, "Man, this kinda sucks." I was like, "Why, because we don't all have our spider legs? You are looking at this from a democrat point of view. You think it sucks because everyone doesn't have what they need. I'm looking at it from a republican point of view. I have what I need, so the system is working great. Its not the system's fault you don't have your spider legs, its your fault."
I thought I was hysterical, but the gang was basically like, "less social commentary, more spider killin!"
Seriously though, the game is pretty damn fun. Graphics rock, combat is fun, quests are excellently designed to send you out into the world, but not into places you aren't ready for yet.
I really can't say enough about how happy I am with the quests. I am sure at higher levels they get tougher and all that, but the low level quests are so perfect I really can't get over them. None of them are too hard, I haven't ever gotten "stuck" on a quest yet, and they all send me to the areas I should be exploring anyway. By the time I finished the quests in the first lowbie town, I had a good feeling for the area and the last few quests sort of pointed me towards the next bigger town. Then the quests in that town really helped me learn that area and eventually sent me towards the next biggest town.
And another great thing about quests is that I feel like I was leveling way faster when I was doing quests and killing whatever monsters were along the way, then if I just found a good camping spot and grinded on monsters all day. In daoc you generally got way better exp by forming a group and camping a spawn spot all day. Its way more fun to do quests and read the stories and stuff.
I also like how (at least at low levels) equipment isn't such a high priority. I don't feel gimped by using starter equipment like I would in doac.
The crafting also seems much better than in doac. No failures to worry about. The hard part about making good stuff is finding the ingredients, which makes sense. If you have the ingredients you can make the stuff and you skill up pretty fast. I always thought it was dumb that a crafter would try to make a hat or whatever and totally fail and come up with nothing but a waste of time. That shouldn't really happen. Maybe a lower level crafter would make crappier hats or whatever, but its not like he is gonna sit down to make a hat and just come up with nothing.

What an amazing concept!!! Kill spiders, collect spider legs, turn them in for reward!!!! HOLY SMOKES WORLD OF WARCRAFT IS LIKE SO TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM EVERY OTHER MMORPG MADE!!! Sure is neat to see such a variance in video games. Go pay your monthly fee to collect spider legs in yet another standard issue mmorpg in a different box. It's so easy to make money off of people.
Not only that, we collected fangs from wolves and hides from cougars!!!!
Yeah, its the same old thing, but its fun. :)

Too bad there won't be another Diablo because Blizzard needs to use all it's resources for World of Everquest. It's a sad day...

I collected feathers on Saturday. That was fun. And I unpoisoned some wells.
I agree about the quests. I've only run into one nasty one so far...other than that - they're great xp for not too much effort.

oddly enough, from my experience in Catacombs testing, you will be able to level up entirely on quests, from level 1. Quite like what you're describing.

i think that you can. i cant speak past say level 20 or so. but until then you can level easily off quests and if you cant you can travel to other faction territory and quest over there too.

Those quests sound stupid. Im with Shaq on this one. I dont understand where the creativity or "fun" is in collecting a stupid drop from a monster then trading it in. Then again quests for the most part have never been a strong point in MMORPGs. FFXI has a great "Mission" system setup. Its a collection of quests that require you preform tasks that arnt all that stupid (like collect and trade). Rather, these missions are only done for story. They are basically an classic sqaure RPG put into a MMORPG.
Mind you FFXI has a lot of stupid quests. The fame system is nice. the more quests you do the more the town you do them in will like you. Lowering prices, giving you more quests for better loot and stuff like that.
I fail to see how WoW has some awesome quest system.

the thing that's awesome about it is that there are enough to do to actually level up. you don't ever have to go out and 'farm'
And they are fun. They aren't all just "kill spiders till you get enough spider legs." Some are good stories. Like take the magic thingy to the poisoned well. Beat up all the evil monsters protecting the poison well so you can get close enough to use the magic thingy. Use the magic thingy to fix the well then bring the water back to town to heal the dude who will tell you another story. I had one quest where I used this magic stuff by a special fire and it made me see a vision of a ghosty animal dude. Then I had to follow the ghosty animal dude across the land to a cool place that I never would have found otherwise where I got to fight cool monsters and talk to new npcs.

I lagged on that one and lost my wolf spirit. I was like, "Which way did he go, George? Which way did he go?" Luckily, Grundy knew where I needed to go.

I tried to do that one, but I fucked it up. AFter I drank the potion I didn't see anything in particular to do, so I just stood there stoned till it wore off.
Have I lost that quest forever now, Boom?

Basicly Alliance area is safe (unless you attack a horde member in there), Horde area is safe (unless you attack a alliance member in there), and all the contested land follows Mythic RvR rules.

you should be able to abandon the quest, and since you haven't completed it you should get your joy juice once more when take the quest again. i suggest rubbing up to kodo rock suggestively while drinking... feel the burn.

WoW quest system >> DAoC quest system
What an amazing accomplishment. They should get some sort of award for such a great feat. I mean to come along and make a video game that has a quest system better than DAOC!?!?!?!? You have got to be kidding me. They must have gotten together some of the greatest video game minds on the planet to formulate such a wonderful, gigantic, enourmous break through of creating a better quest system than DAOC.
A GODDAMN MONKEY CAN MAKE A MMORPG QUEST SYSTEM!!!!!!!
You are correct, a monkey could make a quest system as good as most of the MMORPG out there. But out of the hundreds of MMORPGs, lots of them have quests that aren't fun. They are too hard or too easy or just annoying. So far the quests in this game have been fun.
No one is saying this is an enormous breakthrough. No one is saying that this game is original or new in any way. Its just well made and fun. Well, I should say its fun so far, I'm still a lowbie so I really can't comment on the high level stuff.
Figgy, I did the same exact thing. I drank the magic potion and got distracted by the TV so I missed the visionwolf thingy. So I just brought up the quest, clicked "abandon" and went back to the dude who first gave me the quest. He didn't make fun of me for screwing it up, he just gave me a new bottle of magic juice and this time I payed more attention when I drank it. The visionwolf is small so he is easy to miss, don't expect this massive vision to appear, look around you on the ground.

Thanks!
So if I abandon the quest, I can start it over again fresh??
Yes, the little yellow exclamation point comes back over the NPC's head and everything. Its like you never got the quest in the first place.

boomy, whats your nick? mO said you were humping randomly about strOmreaver.
btw. any of you lol's doing enchanting on strOmreaver? which on? just wonderinging.
I think my mains are gonna be...
Boomy on Stormbeaver, taur hunter.
Bewm on that alliance server, gnome rogue.
I got the name Boom saved on the alliance server too. He is a level 8 elf hunter, but I don't want to play 2 hunters and my taur hunter is already 11. So I might reroll Boom into a mage or something.
Tonight I will be on Stormbeaver. Tomorrow I will be on the alliance server.

seems to be a bit slower than daoc when the levels match up and there isnt an advantage in numbers on one side.
I watched a movie (ill post if i can find again) where 2 mid 30s level Shaman (or maybe a shaman and something else) fought this paladin for about 10 minutes before some of the paladins buddies showed up...
Ive had fun the couple times ive been involved in fighting. The goals seem to be control of whole zones.
One side can own or control the zone, making their merchants spawn (i think dont quote me on that) and making questing much harder for the other side. not sure exactly how this works, but seems pretty cool...

boomy's descriptions can always crack me up and make me want to play something...
/sigh
Haven't played it yet, like Roscoe's and Yarr, but unlike them i'm not gonna trash everything that i don't play.
Yarr your toon looks like a bowling ball with ears. Enough to make me not try it. And Roscoe you should just get back to your whining about how the Boston Red Sox bought the world series and how your Angels SuK.
