i just got me a copy of this fine game, and lemme be the first to say........WOW!!!
the graphics are really nice and the environment is pretty much interactive,u can throw anything u pretty much see around or use it to your advantage.
the gravity gun is really the best part of the game so far for me........its a gun that lets u pick really big things up,and u can throw them really fast at stuff(like a whole car at a monster).....really too much fun throwin buicks at aliens:)
if anyone is a 1st person shooter fan....this is a must have,and if u arent a fan..........get it anyways.
ohh btw,cs source is really a nice additive to the game, the game is totally overhauled, and all the oldschool maps are there.

Must agree. HL2 is pretty damn good. Not sure about longlivity (never was a CS fan particularly), think I'll be playing Dawn of War again in a couple of weeks after I've gone through it for the second time.
I would say its the best SP game I've played since, well, Half-life.
Got it off Steam (silver package), so also got all of their back catalogue (Opposing force, HL:Source, etc)

Anyone else annoyed by the parnoid behavior of the devs?
Not only do you need a keycode.
It has to be valiadted online to play the game.
AND you still need the CD in the drive.
I mean, if you are going to validate the play online, why need the CD!

HL 2 = best video game ive ever played. Valve pissed me off on several occasion over the past 2 years but they produced a game that rocks the house without more than a couple minor annoyances. It really am dumb founded how sweet it is.
And OMG that engine is the shit. I can play it at 1600/1200 on a lower end system without problems. (amd 2200, 512 ram, 9800pro)
Grav gun is very possibly the coolest thing ever!!! I cant wait for the MODS to start rolling out!
Hmmm, I might have to try this. I got into videogames because of First Person Shooters. Its been a while since I played one, but I remember the adrenaline rush it would give me and no MMORPGFPST can compare. I played UT in particular. UT came out a few years after Half-Life so it looked much better and was just way cooler in my opinion. I kind of had a biased view of Half-Life because I was sooooooo into UT and I would look on the server lists and see 100,000 people playing UT but 100 billion zillion people playing counterstrike. So I was always like, why the hell is everyone playing that lame old game when the cool new UT is so much better?! Half-Life sucks! UT rules!
It also pissed me off when Destrukt would leave UT and go play counterstrike for 6 months. Destrukt was a freakin UT god (at DM) and was soooooooo much fun to play with or even to just watch. Why the hell would he want to go play that lame counterstrike where there are soooo many people playing that he couldn't possibly stand out the way he did in UT. I mean, in UT he wasn't just a big fish in a small pond, he was a blue whale in a dixie cup! Maybe he was a big deal in the counterstrike community too and I just didn't know about it.
Anyway, I digress. With Half-Life mods being the most popular online FPS of all time, and considering how long it took them to finally get Half-Life2 out, it has to be good. If they did a crappy job with it, they would never get over it. The only thing that makes me hesitant is that I never really played single player FPS games. I always played UT online. So I think I would get bored with single player FPS. But I have been playing CoH alone most nights, since I was tricked into going to CoH and everyone just abandoned me there. So maybe I could have fun with a single player FPS.

thats funny boom, i picked up UT after a year or two of playing HL and CS and after a couple weeks I went right back to CS. Just something about that game. I am tired of it now though, wouldnt be playing it at all if it wasnt for the source engine upgrade while i wait for Day Of Defeat to come out... Anyway I am really looking forward to the MODs people come up with for this new engine. Its just so bad ass its hard to imagine the next "counterstrike"
And trust youll find plenty to enjoy about the single player experience in HL2.
The story isnt anything to write home about it does a very good job of sucking you into the game even if it doesnt really tell you much about whats going on... There is o much to the the game that "shooter" doesnt really cover it, there is a ton of shooting, but many parts of the game require using your noggin to get around. Even the parts that could simply be shot though can be made easier or made to require no shooting at all with a bit of thinking...

I love the gravity gun and the saw blades, get some nice wicked action with that.
The paint cans are funny too, they even break open and you can paint the enemies. :)

yea spent awhile trying to paint a couple of them so they all looked good before i blasted them... Also a painted saw makes for much easier location and retrival
The saw part may very well have been my favorite part... Although the bridge kicked some major ass and the strider fights, and the boat, damn theres just so much to like!
Damn, this does sound fun! The only thing stopping me from buying it today is the fact that WoW comes out tomorrow and I'm already feeling stretched between WoW and CoH (and I'm still paying for DAOC for some reason).

UT was good, but i have to go with time played, UT - 3 maybe 4 weeks, CS - 3 maybe 4 years, and I am still enjoying it today (in much shorter streches but...)
About that only thing that UT had on CS was graphics...
No you cant be a cow in HL, but personally I would have put off WOW until I finished HL2 if I had the choice of only one... It will still be good in a couple months Boom, and if you never played the first one you should find someone who has a copy and go through that first, a. to get the story, b. to see just how far they went in 6 years...

Give it time and I am sure there will be a cow mod for HL. HL2 is a really great game. Can't wait for DoD. Hopefully a TFC mod will get made too with Source (probably be another 10 years before the TeamFortress game actually gets made by Valve, but that's ok cuz I <3 Valve)

I been playing Halo2 on xbox live. The game rocks, the online set up is super sweet. The single player missions are alot of fun also but the game is made for online play. The multiplayer is the shit, and it's nice and easy to log on and play. You can be in game real fast and play lots of games real nice and easily. My xbox live name is El Chupacabre if anyone wants to play.

Nah it had better netcode, physics, and variety to gameplay.
It wasn't 'realistic' though and that's what CS had going for it. I played CS up until the time that UT and Q3 had their free demos and I never looked back. Obviously this is a personal preference and not the majority ad boom pointed out.

well we could argue about which is better till we are blue in the face. I enjoyed UT for a the month I played it, I prefered the HL mods and CS in particular more. Hell I probably played a half dozen various FPS's from Doom, UT, Tribes, and others and after enjoying each for a short time I was back playing CS...
It definately is a preference thing, and dont enjoy CS nearly as much as I have enjoyed some of the other FPS multiplayer games ive played in the past couple years, such as Wolfenstein ET, the Battlefield games, and CoD... I am looking forward to the next "CS" though, since I see so much potential in the HL2 engine...
I think a great MOD would be a cross between the fast paced realizm of CS, plus the more interesting game types that games like Wolfenstein ET, and the Battlefield games have brought us :D

Blame Vivendi for that. The developers (Valve) don't put the securom rubbish on the cd's, its the publisher.
As I bought it online via Steam I don't have any disks anyway (apart from the single DVD-R I made with the steam backup utitility so I won't have to download it again if I loose the hard drive).

I don't really see any point to this, or Doom 3 :(
Roscoes_C&W
11-22-2004, 02:34 PM
There isn't a point to them. You play half life 2 and doom 3 for like a couple weeks, or 1 week, and finish the game and thats it. Halo2 has a kick ass story line and missions if you want to single player and it has sweet multi-player set up on xbox live. And theres nothin like playin on a big screen high def TV loungin on a couch and drinkin beers, that rocks! Halo2 is the shit man!!!!!!!! You get the headset and play online all night long!!!

Yeah, this is one of those arguments that can go back and forth really. I was on Murries side of the fence. I liked Quake 3 and UT both, Quake 3 more then UT actually but Half-Life and all its mods are higher on the pole then UT and Quake for me.
Doom 3 is nothing like Half-Life either IMO.
I'm con'n my brother to bring his XBox home for Thanksgiving and buying Halo2 so I can give it a whirl also.

HL2 is a great single player game but.. I have the sound stutter problem and it's a game killer for me so I've stopped until it's fixed in a patch.
I purchased the silver package and installed a copy of the Action Half Life mod for HL1 to play on our home LAN with the boys. Just like being in a John Woo movie. :) AHL = winnar!!!
Riddick
11-22-2004, 11:54 PM
Oh yeah, AHL ruled. My kill/death count was never good tho cuz I always had to much fun diving sideways off out of 2nd floor windows while shooting all akimbo style.
