Me (27) another ranger (27), bard (28).
We all go running down to Treibh looking to jump in a group. We get there, only two small groups inside, both disbanding and loggin. Crapster, no exp for us :(.
BUT! An idea strikes us for some reason (probably lack of sleep). So, to test this we head down into the dungeon, and find us a red scrag. I plink it, haul ass back to the room just below the entrance. Bard hits the scrag with confusion, we plink at it til it gets to half health. Eventually the silly thing hits the neutral purple rock golem in the corner, the two creatures duke it out while we plink at both. When all's said and done, we get 900k from the scrag, bout a mil from the golem, and use the same tactic making worms go nuts on themselves for the next couple hours, everyone dings.
Pfft tanks, mob insanity is the way to go :D.

I was once in a group of 3 rangers and.... gosh I think it was a Warden.
THAT was fun and interesting. :)
We never got the timing down to do multiple critical hits, but we still could drop 3-4 arrows into the beasty as he rushed up... Dropped that health significantly.

I got rez'd on the Hibby frontier by a lvl 37 bard who told me she was there to make the big f'n giant critters fight each other.
I asked her to show me how to do it.
She pulled/confused and the two giants kicked her ass in one shot.
She laughed about it, seeing as how she just levelled and couldn't care less about the exp. Now that was one funny demonstration.

From what I've read, the confuse spell can be risky to use, but very effective when it goes right. It's my understanding that for lower level bards, the spell causes the target to attack randomly. The more the bard specs in this line, the greater the possibility the monster will attack another monster.
I posted about the confuse spell in a bard forum, and here's the response I got:
Confusion at higher levels becomes useful if you're duo'ing with a ranger or mage. At higher level of confusion, the mob will attack "friend or foe". While the code is kicked in for attacking friend, it will not be attacking you. The problem with the current confusion code is that confusion cases the mob to warp, and in a northerly direction. Most well balanced larger groups do NOT like this spell, it's inefficient, and can cause mages to die very quickly (when a mob is randomly attacking everyone, and hits for 300-500 per hit).
Haha thats great Xayd, I don't know why I get so much enjoyment when mobs fight each other :)

I think the "attacking another monster" thing is where we did so well. The Scrags in there are social, and would commonly start to fight each other, even when pulled out of their spawn rooms.
On the other hand the worms, even those purple to us, went completely haywire. They're non-social, and I never saw one attack another worm. This leads me to believe that non-social creatures don't know what their kindred are, and when confused they just zip about aimlessly if the spell works well enough to make them look for a friend to attack ;).
And yeah, this would be dangerous for mages, I can only see it working well with Rangers. I can't tank anything purple or red for very long, but I can take about five shots, which is plenty of time for the bard to get the spell to land.
