As most of you know, my new computer, hasn't been 100% since I got it. The biggest problem, is that it freezes up, whenever I'm on the net.

Beav, sent me a PC check program that I have to copy to floppy drive. I'm now having problems with my floppy drive. I thought I've used the drive before this and it worked, but I'm not positive.
Anyway, when I go to copy or read from it, it tells me the disk isn't formatted. All disks, program disks etc., it does this do. So therefore, I can't copy this program to the drive b/c it thinks the disk is unformatted. If I try to format the disk, it then tells me it can't format b/c the size or something doesn't match and/or the disk is damaged. Any idea what could be causing this? I know floppy drives are real cheap, but I'd like to know if it's something else that is causing this or if I just need a new floppy drive.

I also don't think this is the problem of my freezing computer, but until I get this fixed I won't be able to run the pc checky thang!

It freezes whenever you're on the NET --- not just DAoC?

You're using the onboard NIC, right? I haven't heard of any problems with it, but my gut says that's the problem. If you have a spare network card laying around, pop that in and try it (move the network cable over to the new card).

If you don't have one laying around, I can send one to you.

As for the floppy, I'm pretty sure you had me put in a new one. I sent you the receipts right?

Yup freezes while surfing or in DAOC.

Ok, I have no idea if I'm using the onboard NIC card or not. And I'm pretty sure I don't have an extra one just laying around mainly b/c I'm not even sure what it would do  Remember this is Sticky your talking to.. Stickybuns=dumb!

I have the invoice for the case, ram, floopy and soundcard. I don't think I have the receipt for the mb. Not really sure what the warranty info is either, but I'm pretty sure it's to late to return it to newegg.com It's been over a month. :fuct:

Well, the NIC I wasn't so worried about. I can send you an extra one I have.

The floppy on the other hand sounds like it's dead. (I know I tested it before I sent it to you)

That's the same motherboard I put in the LoL UT server and it doesn't crash, so it's A) Compatibility issue or B) random faulty hardware. :(

We can "borrow" a floppy drive from one of the comps at work and see what happens.

Is the computer stable when you are offline? Are the lock ups isolated to the internet either by DaOC or surfing?

Boomy, drives are cheapy, and I can't borrow forever. So I'm a just buy a new one.

Beav, you mean you can use computers for other things besides surfing the net and playing DAoC? :p Anyway it hasn't locked up on me any time other than surfing and on DAoC but then again, that's usually all I do on my home computer :D.

One problem i have found on transported pc's is board creep. If I have a pc that worked fine until after being transported, the first thing I do is reinsert the boards and drive cables and 9 times out of 10 that solves the problem for me.

While that's not a bad idea Badg, it's an onboard NIC. No real creepage to be done there. :(

That's why I recommend trying a NIC to see if it fixes it.
