I've realized that not only are my typing skills poor (as most of you know) but my note taking and handwriting skills are worse.

One of my instructors suggested that I get a recorder of some sort and a software program to transfer the lectures to Word so I can print them.

I'm not uber rich but I'd like to try this out (hopefully this will help in some of my classes that are lecture intensive)
Can anyone suggest a recorder and software?

I'd like to find a recorder that has a pc connection and possibly additional memory (optional at this point)
and software that isnt gonna make me flat broke (oops too late) :p
or at least reasonable priced and not too difficult to install and operate?

Thanks

voice dictation software isn't necessarily expensive if you don't care too much about accuracy. If you want accurate, you probably want Dragon Naturally Speaking, but that's kind of expensive.

I've written alot of voice recog code in my day, it's pretty simple stuff. Get the right hardware and I'll tell you how to program your own grammars :D

I'll second the recommendation of Dragon.

Dragon is a good one... you can write your own using Microsoft Voice Framework but it requires a lot of advanced programming.
