Bill Burkett gives up his source of the CBS memos: (http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/23/cbs.documents/index.html)

Burkett has subsequently revealed, through his attorney, the source of the documents -- a woman who identified herself as Lucy Ramirez, who called him to tell him she had documents related to Bush's Guard service.

Apparently she is the daugher of Sean Connery's flamboyantly gay-near-do-well character from the original Highander.

And he burned the originals to protect the idenity of the women who gave him the document! Now if you had those, why burn them? He just totally removed the possibility of ever proving they are real.

It's called CYA... he doesn't wanna be held accountable.. for legal reasons...

Well if he burned the originals and they were authentic, he's destroyed any hope of them being proven as such and exposed himself to more legal troubles, not less.

Not really swifty... to sue him they need to prove his intent was to mislead and lie. If he was acting on good faith they can not collect on him. So by burning them he actully is reducing the chance he can be called out for doing it for reasons other then good faith.

Burning the evidence points to an attempt to mislead and lie. One does not normally burn documents unless they are hiding something. The paper of the documents can be tested and dated to verify their age, this now cannot be done.

well he burned it to protect him from legal action but at the same time it made him seem more guilty but that guilt cannot be proven because he burned them, so realisticly he looks worse but legally he is better off.

I think he burned it cuz he's a pyro. That's the only reason anyone would burn anything.

I got a $100 ticket for burning sticks from a cop on a bicycle up at Lake Tahoe when I was like 14. That asshole was telling my parents I was some sort of pyromaniac AND ALL I WAS DOING WAS BURNING SOME STICKS. Goddamn dickhead cops.
