View Full Version : Babylon question for ya!
When you put points into stealth what does it actually do?
I know it sounds like a stupid question but someone said it helps you run faster when stealthed as well as increasing your stealth range.
How useful is celtic duel for a ranger?

dunno about that stealth running speed..... would be neat tho!
Stealth range, I believe. I've had a few occasions where I have seen a stealthed kobold, and they obviously couldn't see me... one was grey (so it could have been levels) one was red (so guess it wasn't. :) )
I know Stealth is the theif abilities, which they are in the process of developing - like Safefall, every 10 levels in stealth you get 1 level of Safefall, which lowers falling damage.
Celtic Dual could be REALLY nice for a ranger - if you go that route. You'd have to sacrifice something else, which is just something I was not prepared to do. The more you have in CD, the more often your second weapon will actually attack. Add to that those spiffy Styles, and hey...
But not the route I chose, so I can't give first-hand testimony. :)
Ok I think I have an idea of what I want for Gojin at 50.
+10 STR,+10 DEX,+10 QUI at character generation
Bow 48
Stealth 41
Piercing 29
Pathfinding 31
or
Bow 48
Stealth 41
Piercing 12
Pathfinding 41
So Babs which template looks better? Thanks
Also what magic item can I count on finding to boost some of these attributes?

+Stealth - bracers
+Recurve - bow
I haven't seen much in the way of adding to pierce or pathfinding - but it also depends on what levels.. course.. with Babs giving you hand me downs... you'll likely never to want for anything. :D
I think I am going with the following
Bow 48 (I might spec even less if I can find a bow that gives more than +2)
Stealh 41 (again I'm hoping to find items to boost this stat)
Pierce 29 (a little low but I'm hoping my self buffs will help dmg output and I know a few daggers should add to this as well, since I can equip two daggers all the better)
Pathfinding 31 (I think this will give me enough self buffs without missing out on too much but I may be wrong)
I'm ditching dual wield, it would be nice but I agree with Babs its too much of a sacrifice.

Personally, I'd go with a shield rather than the extra dagger (15% chance of swinging both) - aint bad.. but 15% chance of blocking is more important to me.. they generally do more damage than I do.. so stopping it is important.. not to mention, you can find some decent cool shields out there.
Yall can use shields, right?

Yeap Rangers can use shields but only small ones.
Druids can only use small shields too. But OMG when you are in a close battle, and watching your power and the monster's lifebars drain evenly, and you hear that "clunk" sound of your shield blocking a hit, its the best sound in the world. :D You look back at the lifebars and see you have one more hit worth of life then the monster. :)
Speaking of shields. I keep upgrading my shield so that it cons yellow to me. There are no stats or anything on the shields. Am I wasting my money? Or will I block more often with a yellow shield than with a green one?

supposedly, yes..
but.. you'll find some cool shields soon.. (especially at 30th)

My opinion, again, clearly just my opinion, is that Pathfinding past 16 is kinda not worth it...
But maybe that is just me, and why my character is built the way she is. :)
Same reason I didn't take pierce past 10th....
But they look fine. :)

I was going to imply that as well, but didn't know so much.
I'd take the points you were gonna put in piercing & pathfinding and put them into CDW (Celtic dual wield) - it pays off no matter how many points you put into it.

Stealth if fully specced becomes a simple equation of "am I a higher level than my opponent" on whether you stay stealthed when you get in range of them, so if you plan to RvR, especially solo, with your Ranger that's the way to go from what I'm told.
Yeah there are a few items that add to stealth skill so the consensus is a target of 40 skill by 50th is fine.
You'll want your bow maxed IMHO. There are a few items that add to bow skill yes, but if you're wearing all stealth gear you can't wear bow gear at the same time ;). Plus, there are some upcoming bow styles to be released with one being at 50 I'm sure.
I gave up on pierce and celtic dual to get more stealth and pathfinding earlier. I went to 10 on Pierce to get the style there that requires no opening, I'm gonna get the 29th rank Pathfinding skill for that dex/qui buff, and then the rest bow/stealth.
BTW, you get 1 rank of celtic dual at 10th automatically and you'll get a ring as part of your epic at 15th level that adds two more ranks to it, so you might try it with three ranks to see if you like it before spending any points on it ;).
wow thanks for the input everyone.
Ok i did some more research and with all the info I obtained, I think I am going to spec as much as I can in Bow, Stealth, and leftovers in Pathfinding. Since I want to be an RvR Sniper this should suit me well. It will compromise melee ability but as long as I find good groups I should level decently.

Groups are gonna be the key later, you're lucky to have the big guild to help ya out. There'll be a lack of 'animal-ish' creatures for you to hunt after 35th level, which makes life pretty damn hard if you don't have guild members to help you out.
On a lighter note you should breeze from 21 or 22 to about 30. There's a kickass quest bow you get from the "Stolen Glory" quest at 20th level that should do you almost to 30, and you can also start with the irewood variety of trees in this range as well.
Thanks Xayd, hehe you should start a character on Pellinor with us:)
