View Full Version : My "Paper Doll" Is Scrambled

I think I remember a post somewhere about graphical glitches with the "paper doll" part of the DAoC interface. Seeing Malk's screen shots with a clear picture of what it is supposed to look like reminded me that mine is fragged and unreadable. Any idea what I should do or where that post is that talked about the same problem? I'm guessing it is video driver related, but I hate to mess with that...seems there are always ramifications when I tweek video card settings. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Try 21.88 or 22.30 - depends on what you're running.

Long as we are discussing vidcard problems....

I'm running off my Voodoo 3 3000. Waiting for unreal2 to get my Geforce4. ;)

My compass doesn't work. Mythic's FAQ says to download and install the Omega drivers. Done. My compass still doesn't work. :/ Also, my miniparty screen does not show when people are poisoned or diseased. As a healer, its kind of important for me to be aware of that. I can check the big party screen, but if someone has a lot of buffs I may not be able to see the disease icon. Anyone know of any uber voodoo drivers out there? I can live with this, but if there is a solution, it would be pretty cool. :)

Also, Stickybuns crashes every 20 minutes, sometimes every 5 minutes. It makes me want to cry. What should she do?

Jammer, just found your question on the mystic tech support page. Here is what it says there.

Question
<->

Paperdoll in inventory window shows graphic "static" instead of a representation of the character.

<->

Answer
*-*

This appears in NVidia TNT/GeForce cards that are not running the most current Detonator drivers. Download the latest drivers for your card at http://www.nvidia.com/

Crashes how? Just dumps to desktop? Computer freezes?

I know I put the thermal grease on just fine.. but have her check her CPU temp after a crash by going into the BIOS and looking under PC Health or something like that.

She says it freezes and she has to reboot. Ctrl-alt-del doesn't even work. She has to press the little button next to the power button. It only happens with Daoc. It happens to me to with Daoc, but like maybe once or twice a day (actually, it hasn't happened in a few days), and Cobey says it happens to him every couple of hours or so, but with Sticky its like alot. I'll direct her to this thread so she can give more details.

Well, what other games do you guys play (other than UT, we know that's CPU intensive) and if it doesn't do it with UT, but does with DAoC, it's DAoC, not the computer. :(

She doesnt play any other games! :O

I don't think she has even installed d2 on her new machine yet. She really needs to, otherwise all her characters on the battlenet will be deleted. Hehehe.

I'll point her to this thread, maybe she can give us some more details.

Thanks for thinking of me Boomy :)

Well the problem I have is the computer freezes, it just stops, cnt-alt-del wont restart, always have to hit the reset button. But it doesnt just freeze in DAoC, it also will freeze while I'm surfing, It frooze a few minutes ago while I was reading this thread.

Other times it works real good, yesterday I was playing DAoC with Shirky and it didnt crash the whole 21/2 hours we played. But the night before that, it crashed every 5 minutes (especially when in the tomb)

So I think my problem is more than DAoC. Also the new drivers 23.11 won't work with DAoC. If I have those installed DAoC won't get past the title screen.

Yeah and I have to install D2 or I can just give boomy my pw and he can open it up for me :D

Next time it freezes, I will try to check the bios, which I'm sure I wont' have to wait long for that to happen :(

If you guys are all on Hibernia, I think it's just the game. I get lockups/random reboots too, Athlon @ 920mhz, 256 megs PC133 Crucial, Voodoo5 (Radeon VIVO next week, we'll see if that makes a difference), and I get a reboot/lockup about once an hour.

Isn't as bad bumbling around Mid cracking Trolls :p, but Hibernia has alot more detail in the landscape, seems to be much more of a load on resources. I seem to see it alot more on horse rides, especially into Innis, as zones change very frequently.

i'm running a voodoo5, PIII 733 with 256 at 133Htz, Windows ME and i'm not getting any crashes. My Voodoo Driver is version 4.12 and the compass works. UT was locking up on me before I updated my voodoo driver and UT has been good since and when I installed Daoc I selected Voodoo in the video configuration of the game and it's working fine.

I played for a pretty good bit last night and only lock up twice I think, the second time I checked the bios as Roo asked. And I think it may be getting a little hot.

This is the information I got:

System Fan 0 rpm
Cpu Fan 4560 rpm

system Temp 93 F
Cpu Temp 120 F

I don't know nuttin about computers but I know when it's 120 F here I'm hot as a muther f....

Ok so I think I want to get another fan for this puppy. My question is what kind of fan and where does it go.

Someone point roo to this thread, as he knows my computer since he built it :D

I need the CPU temp in C... I'll find a converter real quick.. but I dont think 120 is too hot.

120°F is 48°C ... which isn't too hot. I run mine around 51°C under load (in DAoC) all the time. Once it hits about 53° (127°F) it reboots (blue screens).

That's a retail CPU & Fan, it should definitely be cool enough.
What's the temp like around the computer?
Do you have baseboard heaters?
or a heater near the computer?
Does your computer have a chance to get cool air though it?
ie, dont close a door if it's in a cabinet type enclosure...

Ok well then I guess there is another reason causing the computer to freeze up.

No baseboard heaters or heaters around the computer, It's in a cabinet but there is no front door and the back is 1/2 enclosed and 1/2 open, (so it should be getting air).

So any other ideas of what could be causing the freeze up outside of DAoC?
