For the past few weeks I've been having a quite annoying problem on my desktop computer. I think it had something to do with the BlazeFind spyware that I had removed from my comp. It started when a Search Toolbar was placed on my windows taskbar. I finally got rid of that toolbar & blazefind, however, now I can't save my taskbar settings. Every time that I log into windows, after loging out shutting down, I have to open the taskbar settings and add the quick launch toolbar again. I am finally fed up with doing this and asking if anyone knows a fix. Im running Windows XP home edition.
/sigh

Did you remove the spyware (all of it)?
Are you running any programs that may protect the registry from modification (ala Spybot S&D Teatimer)?

Not a fix but often what needs to be done... If you got hit that hard by spyware a lot of times you are better off just reinstalling the OS... Spyware is a pain in the ass to remove and most of the time you will not catch it all.

Yeah, you gotta use like 4 different tools
SpyBot
Ad-Aware
Spysweeper
CWShredder
Don't forget housecall.antivirus.com

I would normally do this, however, I just reformatted about 1 month ago & do not feel like going through it again so soon. Thanks tho.

you can just run a repair on windows if you don't feel like resintalling from formatted hd.
throw in xp disk and choose to repair.
there's this spyware program called bazooka that is awesome. it not only scans for spyware, it also scans for hooks and hijacking programs as well as unnecessary toolbars.
do a google search for bazooka spyware.
found a link for ya. bazooka spyware (http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/)
it will find the spyware for you and show you how to get rid of it. either by editing your registry or by giving you links to uninstall programs.
I use spybot and bazooka. adaware doesn't pick up on all the spyware in your system. I think it's pretty much useless.

Thanks for all the support. I will probably get Bazooka for future occurances. I finally hit the roof when I ended up with more spyware. The new spyware managed to fix my taskbar problems, but caused me some new problems (ie - randomly opening up an IE window and trying to download GAIN ad programs). So, I reformatted again. This time the desktop & laptop. I changed my IE browser settings, hopefully my wife & myself can avoid more spyware with the higher privacy settings.
