Some call hero, I call a sad, possibly uneccessary, loss of life.
No disagreement there, Harm, but what a brave way to face it.

Harm, are you saying his death was a sad death? that he could have avoided it?
Sometimes, we are thrust into situation of which we have no control and can only make the best of it, maintaining dignity and pride (good pride) when it is hardest.
What would you have had him do? What would have been "right" in your eyes?
The bastards that did it will pay, whether in the here and now, or later. But they will pay.

Well, I dont know that he HAD to die... but his captors chose that fate for him.
I do not believe his family would have wished the Italian government to take any action other than what it did. That feeling, of helpless, yet pride in their father/husband - I would not want to be in their shoes.

I dislike the use of 'hero' for everyone that dies in these conflicts. A hero is not a fire man/woman that runs into a burning building to save a life, that is their job. A true hero is some joe that just was walking by and decided to take action.
Then I will say this man was braver than I.

Noleader, know any soldiers that have been in combat, or firefighters? They may deny being called a hero, but their courage to do what others would be too scared to makes them heroes in my book.
