LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (AP) -- Sen. Jim Bunning's re-election campaign issued an apology after Bunning said a potential opponent looks like one of Saddam Hussein's sons.

Bunning made the comment about state Sen. Daniel Mongiardo during a speech at a Republican event March 20. Mongiardo will face Bunning in the November election if he wins the Democratic primary as expected.

"We're sorry if this joke, which got a lot of laughs, offended anyone," Bunning's campaign manager, David Young, said Wednesday.

In Canada, we had something close to this.

Prime Minister Mulroney vacated office, and Canada had a lady, Kim Campbell as Prime Minister going into the election.

She was up against Jean Chretien. Jean had a childhood disease that made him talk out the side of his mouth. Well, Kim's campaign managers made fun of him in commercials.

No matter how much they apologized, they were thought of as cold hearted asses for making fun of his looks and Chretien won in a landslide. There were other election issues involved, but making fun of him for the way he looked saw Campbell take a huge dip in the polls.
