Lunchtime for me and just logging in to see what's what. I think that I saw at least 10 people logged in reviewing the boards. I think this is the highest I have noted.

Just idle chatter to fill the lunchtime hour. :hump:

I had the MOST FUN EVER!!!!

I got to rent a helium balloon blower-upper tanky thing!!!!

And blow up balloons!!!!

OMG!! I had no idea it only cost $50 to rent one of things for a MONTH!!!

I might have to get one for my house!!!!!!!!!!

Figgy,

Was your voice a bit high when you were saying that?

I think that I detect some squeakiness.

No more Helium inhalation for you!

k, enough silliness and back to work for me so I can go home and play!

back in high school we had a helium tank, and this one guy walked by at some point and was about to breathe in straight out of the tank till i yelled at him to stop... that stuff comes out EXTREMELY cold

PV = nRT

n & R are constants.

so, as the pressure goes down (letting it out of the bottle) the volume goes up, but this usually results in the temperature dropping also.

Gads, what a geek! Amazing the things I'll do to avoid work!

yeah I know why the temp drops

for cans of compressed air though, it is really cold because it phase changes from liquid to gas

ah... you are a fellow geek!

I wondered if I should have forayed into the change of state energy balance for the helium note. My thought was that I didn't believe helium was stored in liquid form, but I could be wrong.

I didn't have a squeaky voice when I said that.

Before I rented it I looked up whether or not helium is dangerous to inhale in any way (I have a store full of children (employees) to consider)).

In fact, it's rather bad for you. If you are foolish enough to inhale it straight from the tank - you can blow out your lungs.

And even from the balloon it causes all kinds of other freaky things; constricted airways, blood gas weirdness, etc.

I did not partake, but of course a few of the guys couldn't resist and seemed no more damaged than usual afterwards.

I just liked blowing up the balloons.

:cheese:

breathing in helium isn't dangerous.. when it's from a baloon

deep sea divers in underwater stations use air mixtures rich in helium because at high pressures mixtures that are as high in oxygen as normal air become even more corrosive.

The problem comes when people fill up their whole lungs with helium from a balloon. I almost passed out once doing that =X
