For a low population realm we are doing a great job on the ML path. We have a group of hibs at ml4, and a group making good progress on ml5. We also have bunches of people completing the lower mls all the time. Much of this success is due to the great leadership of Lathera and Aglon, but I'm thinking they are gonna need a lot of support for the upcoming higher level ml trials.
The reason I'm making this post is that I've been reading about what high ml people are doing on other servers. Some of the ml paths do seem kinda crappy, but there are some abilities that can really make a difference in rvr, expecially if a bunch of people have them. Just thinking of last night for example, I think some perfector dropped a heal field on our ram operators and it made a huge difference. That's just one toon using an ml3 ability! I know the fields don't stack anymore, but if we had a bunch of perfectors dropping heal fields and powerregen fields (more shrooooms) all over the relic keep courtyard that mighta given us that extra unf to get that relic out of there. And more warlords operating rams coulda sped things up, and more battlemonsters doing that faultfinder dealy to the doors, and how about a few ml9 warlords raising all our levels for damage calculations when fightin them guards, or some stormlords making whatever weird clouds to weaken the guards/mids.
We were damn close last night, any little bit of extra help coulda made the difference, some of these MLs give more then a little bit of help. We gotta get these mls before the mids/albs on pellinor get them, and before they all get nerfed. The more hibs that get them, the better off we gonna be in rvr.
I see the ML trials as a new battleground in the war between the realms. We fight the albs/mids in emain, we fight them over relics and we gotta beat them in the ML war as well.
A lot of people think ML abilities are crappy and don't want to bother getting them for your particular toons. Well, you are probably right, but you oughta consider going on a few ml raids anyway just to help other people get mls. Think of it like this, power relics don't do squat for a Hero, but tons of Heros went on the relic raid last night because power relics are good for the realm. Maybe banelord abilities don't do squat for your champ, but go on a ML raid anyway to help some perfectors and warlords level up. Same kind of deal.
There are a few misconceptions about ml raids we gotta get past. First misconception, is that ml raids just plain out suck. Truth is they are really fun. The final encounter for ml4 we fought this huge guy and we had to pull him over to these massive stone pillars, then beat on the pillars till they fell on the bossmobs head to weaken him. It was awesome! I didn't get credit because I got hosed on another step, but I had a ton of fun. For the final enounter in ml5 we all get to turn into mummys and run around an egyptian temple like in an old Abbot and Costello movie! I can't freaken wait! Its all about having the right attitude. Just like the relic raid last night, we went there to have fun and it rocked, if we went with the attitude that we had to get a relic or we lose, it woulda sucked. I've been on at least five ml3 raids. I still don't have ml3. The last two raids I went on I didn't even get a single new step. Did it suck? Hell no. They were fun fights, fun encounters, and I helped other hibs get some new steps they needed. Eventually I will get the ones I need. Just don't get frustrated if you get hosed on a step (it WILL happen) and have fun.
So if you hear an announcement for an ML raid, don't just think "do I need/want any steps for this raid?" Also think, "Do I feel like going along to help the realm get more people with ML abilities?"
