Condensed thread for Aion guild formation

In an effort to get this organized and moving since launch is only like a week away, I started this thread so we can hash out the details before it all becomes a last minute thing...

Here are the things we need to figure out:

1. Asmodian or Elyos or both?
--FYI both play exactly the same, it's all simply personal preference and character look. The biggest difference I've actually found is that Asmodians hve clawed hands and feet but can otherwise still be "pretty", and their eyes glow red in combat. That part is actually pretty cool.
The Elyos are more of the "Ken and Barbie" variety.

2. What server(s)?
--I'm presuming western servers but I have no real preference since I play at night anyhow. The only concern here is if we have enough people to have one Asmodian server and one Elyos server. As a word of warning though, we tried that with WoW and the horde side wound up merging into another guild.

I'll try to make this a poll so everyone can vote for their faction preference.

I agree with you in the fact that they both play the same just look different. With that being said I suggest only picking one side. In all of my past experience splitting up at the start is never a good idea. I really could not care less which side we play. I have played both in beta and both are fine. I just want to get as many quality people together to enjoy the game. Just my .02 cents.

Asmodians get an Attack power/magic boost with the Mau abilities and the Elyos gets a attack/spell cast haste.

that is the only difference i have seen.

Ima be playing Asmodians with my girly and a few rl friends. We tried both sides in open beta and Asmodians kick ass. Dunno what server yet but prolly a west one. Figured I would come check and see if Lions were playing/picked yet and try to get in with youz guyz.

I like the underdog status, but with the new PvPvPVE I am not so sure it matters. I say we see where Nomec might land and that would increase the people we have to play with. I truly do not care which race we play.

ya shouldn't be too much of an underdog type thing with the pvpve system and also servers will lock creation on 1 side if theres too many of the other. least in till they catch back up in numbers.

What's the difference in being an underdog or not if you're playing the side you didn't want to play?

Even still, if one side is showing as more popular than the other, that still may not be true on whatever server we pick to play on. For all we know, 25 other guilds had the same idea and overbalanced it the other direction.

The safest bet is to agree on one side or the other and just go with it.

As for servers, I would recommend Nezakan server as it is the official oceanic server. Being that, it will have a nice spread of people around the clock instead of being a ghost server at certain times. Make it easier to find groups and good for people who work odd hours. It also seems like the majority of the ones playing will be on the west coast, so the majority should be the rule here IMO.

Does anyone have an issue with this? If not then let's just run with that since there's only two days until character creation day... ;)

Given that, we need to have this decided by Thursday night so everyone knows where to go. If you have something to add, hurry up and add it so we can get it moving. The clock's ticking now.

i read up on that Kegg....it seems like every game in the past few years i have tried is great...until...you get to the max level or play more than beta. Aion looks fantastic in all, but i think we need to hear about it when people are max level and then figuring what to do. The newness of game wwears off after a couple months or so and then the truth about what to do next comes out.

It looks like the vote went to the Asmodian side. If we can't create Asmodians on that server, I'll go look for a new one and re-post it here asap so we can get this together. Unless those in favor of Asmodian are ok with going Elyos instead...?

I was able to create Asmodians on the server with no problems whatsoever. It's not listed as restricted either way on the web site.
Maybe when you went to create them the Asmodian side was greyed out, that's because Elyos is automatically selected. Try clicking on the Asmodian picture and it should switch over for you...

Anyone that has created toons already, post them up so we know who to look for please.

Mine are Kegg (lvl 1 mage) and Kegger (lvl 1 scout)


Also, any volunteers to be the one creating the guild (legion, or whatever they call it) once we start up? Since our usual fearless leader doesn't seem to be joining us on this one, who will be the figurehead this time?

Ok, now it's listed as Elyos only... Looks like it's going back and forth, so if you're patient, you should be able to get in. I must have simply gotten lucky when I logged in and made mine.

If this becomes a real problem, we can always reroll as Elyos before the head start begins. If it's going back and forth, it doesn't look like it'll come to that though.

Hopefully that will apply less to this game given that it was running in asia for some time already before they converted it to bring it to us. It still seems to be wildly popular over there, so if they haven't lost interest end-game, then that should apply here as well.
Also, from reading up on this on the beta boards, a lot of people that had been around long enough to play around at the higher levels only liked it more and more. There will always be dissenters and whiners, granted, but the vast majority were having a blast. It reminded me very much of DAOC type RvR which only has me more excited to get going.

Now we just need everyone else to jump in and we should be good. I have a friend or two from another game coming as well but I still worry we won't have enough to start it up. Does anyone know the minimum number needed to create a guild?

I plan on logging in right after football is over. I think the game will be up and running by 3pm central time... I'll probably get my first toon ascended before I try creating the guild. I'm guessing it'll cost something and money is pretty short until level 10ish anyhow, and the ceremony will put me in Pandemonium anyhow so that just makes sense to do it that way.

before I get too far ahead of myself, are we going to have enough people for this? I have a friend or two from another game that will likely be joining us, but I don't know the minimum number we need to start up. If it's 10 that might be a bit tough to scrape together based on the limited activity I see here.

In case we don't have enough, I'll keep my eyes open for familiar guild names so that we might have a plan "B".

Hey Kegg, just wanted to give a heads up I finally made it over here. How many are actually joining up?

Good to see you Syn. The exact number has yet to have been determined... It looks like 6 or 7 right now at least with some others gradually giving in to their addiction and joining last minute. ;)

Given that levels 1-10 are basically solo levels, we don't need to worry too much about creating the legion until a few days in and several people getting established. That would also be helpful in money terms since we're all starting out broke. I don't know what the costs are to create a legion, but I'll be shocked if it's totally free. Almost every game has a cost associated with these things.

I also don't know if there's a minimum number of initial members required to start up (I think WoW required 10 people to sign a guild charter). If there's a requirement higher than say... 6, it might be difficult. If thats the case we need to go to plan B and find a home with another guild (legion) of similar mindsets to our own. (Finding another guild with goofy natured, semi-casual, semi-hardcore players might prove difficult...)


The issue of who is to be guild leader is still out there as well. If it weren't for my weird work schedule, I'd be happy to volunteer. Unfortunately I just couldn't be online enough to justify taking that position. A lot of those joining us are newer Lions that I haven't gamed with before personally, so I can't really make a recommendation either. Does anyone have a suggestion or nomination here?

By lvl 10 i had 14,000 monies and that was from purely questing and selling drops along the way... But I spent it all on getting the crafts.... haha...

10,000 isn't much at all actually, even though it kind of sounds like a lot... with 5 people that'd be 2000 per person and it takes 20-30 minutes of killing stuff to make 2k. Our biggest problem is having enough people on at one time (if it even requires that to create one). Maybe iit has a charter to be passed around that would be easier, especially since everyone starts in pretty much the exactly same place and it wouldn't require a lot of running around.

I'm also still torn on which class to play since they're all so fun. Right now I'm working on building up a templar. Tanking is just so much easier and fun in this game than any I've played before it's somewhat hard to resist.
As usual, I'll probably wind up with 8 toons of mid level with only one built up for RvR. I'm such a sucker for twinks.

ok... Legion of Lions has been created!
I had to spend roughly 12k of my own cash, but I got it done. (I'm not totally broke now, but I'm not worried too much about it.

Everyone please send a mail to Keggs to let me know you need an invite and we'll go from there. Sending mail will help me get everyone's name straight so that seems easier.

Depending on if I get called to work, I'll be on as much as possible over the next few days to start giving out invites. If I set it correctly, it will allow others to continue inviting so we can get everyone in.

As for emblems and such, we need to raise the legion level to do that stuff. Level 2 costs around 122k, so I can't afford it yet. We'll all need to contribute for the next increases. I think there's a vault that you can deposit cash in. Maybe even a tithe feature, but I'll have to discover this as we go.

I'd like to get as many people as possible in the legion asap. My work hours will make it difficult to be doing it all myself. One of the reasons I didn't think being the GL was prudent.
I already set the permissions to alloy any of you that get invited to invite the others. That way we can accomplish the invites through a bit of teamwork.

We also discovered that the /who function is case sensitive, so that explains why we haven't been able to find each other so far... Make sure you type /who Keggs instead of /who keggs.

Oh and yes, I've been playing the Templar under the name Keggs. ;)

I was able to log on quickly tonight and promoted Elvtin and Myrakul so they can help with invites as well. For those of you not in yet, look for any of the three of us to get the invite.

In the meantime, I am trying to discover a way to do a /who Lions type of command. I haven't figured out how to search for a legion tag yet. If anyone knows, could you post it here please?

Also, I still haven't found the Legion vault yet so if you know where it is or happen to find it, please let us all know so we can contribute to the funds to raise our legion level and get our emblem.
If I remember correctly, it's around 12k for the next level (yes, we pay cash to raise it) and requires 10 members. Our alts seem to count in that number, so we can simply invite our level 1 toons to fill out the ranks if we're short on people.

I tried to DL the game onto my laptop before work tonight but ran out of time. Not sure if I can run it or if my mobile broadband will be able to handle it, but it's worth a shot. if so, I'll at least be able to slowly level while sitting at work in some instances. That should keep me caught up some at least.

I'm not against it for sure, but I didn't see any check boxes to let me give permission for this. Seeing as it only has three ranks total (Legionnaire, Centurion and Brigade Commander) it's fairly limited that way. Perhaps it opens up more as we level up the legion?

Looks like we have the majority of people invited now. I know there are a few stragglers still but we'll get them in time.

In the meantime, we should try to get the legion to at least level 2. It costs about 12k to do it and I think we have the 10 members now. If not I can have one of my alts invited to pump the numbers. If any of you have a bit of extra cash, could you throw some small donations in the legion vault? I'm still recovering a bit from the initial cost of starting up since I paid for it myself, but I'll add what I can as well.

Once we get to level 2 I'll see if I can't find a nut emblem to bring back old memories... ;)

Yeah it IS 122k.... I was 2/3 right from one perspective... ;)
Last I checked we had 30k already in the vault, so we're well on our way there. 122k may sound like a lot, but by level 20ish you'll see how trivial that amount actually is.

As for the queue times, I logged in this afternoon and it said 20 minutes, but it was more like 5, so it's basically Microsoft time.

The most remarkable thing happened to me the other day, by the way. I had to wait 10 minutes in the queue to get in, then 5 minutes into playing, the game crashed for some unknown reason. The first thing I thought was "sonofa... now I have to wait in the queue again!", but when I logged back in, it sent me right into the game with no wait.
Apparently, there's some kind of code that marks you as someone who crashed and doesn't make you wait in the queue again unless you actually log out on purpose.

While that was very very cool on my end, I did realize later that I really hope they put in something to prevent people from purposely crashing the game or something along those lines just so they can avoid queue times. The potential for massive exploiting is huge unless they thought of that in advance...

they might have added a timelimit of 5 or 10 mins to get back in if u crashed since alot of people were pissed if they crashed and had to wait in a 2-3 hour Q.

A lot of people are crying for them to put a time limit on the personal store thing since a lot of people are just using it to hold their place on the server and avoid the queues. I don't disagree that there should be some kind of inactivity timer if they're going to have queues to get in in the first place. If someone is inactive for 30 minutes, the game should auto-log them out so someone else can play. Shorter than that may be too harsh to enforce though since the queue can be longer than that at times.
Maybe once the queues are gone they can get rid of it or make it 2-3 hours or something.

I don't see any problems with it sustaining... As it was going for some time in Asia before the NA/EUR release, it isn't a big risk to fail. If it wasn't a quality game, it would have failed there first.
The two things I think will sustain this are the added dimension of flight, not only in PvE but in PvP as well. Castle walls don't mean too much when people can fly over them. Makes PvP a whole new strategy. The other is the PvPvE concept. Imagine DAOC with the Middies being AI controlled. The AI faction hates both sides, so there's no allying with it, no cooperation. From what I understand so far, it goes after whatever side is stronger first, then the weaker one second. When in doubt, it attacks everyone... ;)

If anything, the simple fact that those things are new to the MMORPG concept should keep people interested for some time.

On a personal note, the simple fact that it's functional from day one is a big bonus. Also, NCSoft has been showing that they actually care about and listen to the player base. That's another big plus in my book.

What's the reason these people are giving for quitting so soon after release? My guess is the queues.

I have to admit, this game reminds me alot of DAoC. I am not sure that means i will play it for years like it did with DAoC, but there are many similar traits that i like. I am just not as hardcore as i was back in the DAOC days though.

or most want it to be a DAOC2 game. cant get on when friends play. I read about the first Fortress take last night on Euro server they said from the time they hit the door to the boss it was 1 1/2 hours. that was after they took the artifact keep to make it possible to take the Fortress. given most were lvl 25 taking on a lvl 35 boss. but they had a full raid on it.

At least I'm not the only one that won't be able to decide on one class... So far I've been able to play my templar exclusively, but it's inevitable that I will distract myself.

By the way, after I boosted our funds by roughly 40k kinah, we have our new emblem and colors. I hope everyone likes it, the choices were somewhat limited. Now we can work on level 3 so we can import a nut emblem... Anyone want to volunteer to be in charge of acquiring one for us?

How much more for level 3? I think it's roughly the same number with one zero added... between 1 million and 1.2 million... I know it sounds like a ton, but keep in mind that you're not even level 20 yet. As you level up, you'll see how small an amount that will become.
If you're hurting for money, use the broker a lot for stuff you can't use. You can make some really good cash that way thanks to the gold sellers. ;)
