It seems that we are going to be on the hook for a lot more. To what ends no one really knows.

Off Topic: I am not going to be commenting on Obama or McCain threads again until the election is over. Also Ally don't take my comments before personal. I was saying 'you' as a stand in for all those here that plan to vote for Obama or McCain.

It's not a bailout. It's a "rescue plan."

Looks like the Market didn't get the memo... DJIA settled 300+ points down after a recovery from a 800 point dip.

I hear all this talk about "can't get loans"...

And there's a TON of credit available in our area and lots of anecdotal evidence in others.

Sounds like a wag the dog event for dems... except too many experts seem convinced it's real...

It's still crap - and truth be told, no one can really pin down where the blame lies.

I think however, that the US Govt demanding that lenders make loans to low(er) income families is certainly partially to blame - and I have no idea which parties (read: individual reps) were involved in that.

Both parties have had their hand in the cookie jar on this one. It tracks back many years and basically is the result of programs developed by both the Democrats and Republicans.

Also lets not forget that both parties are claiming it is a huge issue and required the bailout. Truth be told I think it is a big issue but I disagree with the method used to 'fix' it.

End result on the current course is going to be a failing dollar. Unless those in Washington wake up and figure out they can't pile all this on our currency they will quickly send us back into the third world (or new world order if the banks get their way and make a world currency, and yes it has been discuessed over the last few days).

The democratic leadership in the house is planning a 100+ Billion dollar bailout for state and local government now. They plan to call a vote right after the election (lame duck Congress). One can only assume they plan the vote then because they do not want the public to sway the vote by contacting their congress members.

Dems are historically irresponsible with the economy, I wonder how this is going to pan out.

Well I have 8 years of history where the Republicans are irresponsible with the economy. And if McCain gets elected then we may see yet another 4 years of Republicans being irresponsible.

So Mickey, I'd replace Dems with the word Government in your above statement.

Harm, it sure doesnt help when our "R" President doesn't act conservative.

There goes the 'checks' part of 'checks & balances'

(not that the 'balances' part can even remotely apply to Congress)

Republicans have only been irresponsible (overall) since Reagan. Before that, there is a clear history of democrats making the mistakes. The last 20 years have been the exact opposite, of course, but most of the people in congress are thinking about when they were kids. You know, during the civil war.

Well our government took a page from Japan on how to stabilize the financial markets, that they said was a stupid idea 2 months ago, but now say will work. I might also add that history showed that it just lead Japan into stagnation when they did it.

I guess this should have been expected. Only Government can reject a bad bill then turn right around and pass it when they had time to make it worse, and cost more.

I lived in japan and felt like it was hell on earth, but if we're copying them, we might also end up saving social security by immitating their regulation of drug prices.
