They don't have a video card... they have a chimp with electrodes up his bum and a crayon in his hand!
Paul is one of the reasons I am so into this game. And to break the NDA a little, i tried a city siege the other day and it was FUN!

he certainly earns his paycheck. But I kind of resent him. He got me excited for something that I didn't enjoy. He makes things sound good, but after explaining how warhammer is like batman, he kind of doesn't get into the fact that the batman tv series was a crime against humanity, and that batman has been so abused over time that its worn out and needs periodic 'reboots'. Sure the latest movie melts the flesh off your face with awesome, but that's just good luck. Really, the salient comparison is that, like batman, you have a built in audience with warhammer. There's no claims of quality there. In fact, arguably, his embrace of lego batman and toy batman and dark batman and so on are all pointing to a shallow exploitation of a franchise rather than a respectful work that a franchise deserves. If all warhammer is is an amorphous concept that can fit all kinds of roles, then it's just a soulless brand. GW certainly does their best to work on that--they're about selling products periodically for the sake of themselves.
What bugs me is that everytime a bunch of artists get roped into these kinds of shallow crappy exploits, their work is basically wasted--and it's usually pretty good work.

I think the worst part about WHO is that Mythic did not even get near the bar they set with DAoC. They had the best MMO on the market with DAoC yet they basically ignored all the lessons learned from it.

Ouch WHO that bad? I know not to get my hopes up.

oh yeah. And speaking as someone who thought DAOC was a punishment for sinners, WHO is actually worse. Which boggles the mind because it should be a billion times better just for having squigs.

It is crazy, they have a chance to make a great game due to have previous experience in the MMO world, but they don't use it? Really hope the rest of the game makes up for the Lack in PVE fighting.

hope the NDA is lifted soon so I can post my impression from the beta
the impression I get is Mythic wanted to do certain things and listened to the beta testers who told them to do other things. almost sounds like if you don't like the game you should blame the beta testers ?

well, my experience was that I logged into something that was a complete mess. Not from a bug standpoint but from a 'this isn't fun and can't be tweaked to be fun'. Like everyone harps--PQs are an interesting idea, but at the end of the day that's the best thing you could say about the game. The tome of knowledge was like a repository for fluff that wouldn't please the fluffers (lawl) because it was arbitrary. Click on a gargoyle--find out about gargoyles. At the same time it had no functional purpose, so people, like me, who have to be enjoying themselves before they start paying attention to fluff would ignore it completely. What was left was combat that felt the same regardless of class and required you to pound on the keys not only because your basic attacks were meant to be used constantly, but also because it just didn't feel responsive--the interface was ... laggy for lack of a better term. And the interface was dark, and hard to read, and not arranged particularly well. The biggest thing for me is that anyone who pvps regularly needs to see their *LIFE* bar next to their character so that they aren't looking around the edges of their screen for visual queues about how to behave. They put some functional stuff under your nose, which was good, but otherwise, the interface sucked. Then testers said it needed work--and I, particularly tried to spew some helpful wall o'texts about it, but it got nowhere. On top of that, you kept hearing this goofy shit about what was 'down the l ine in the future maybe' when you could see that they'd totally overreached in terms of basic content and assets. They didn't need 3 separate full MMOs worth of content. Blizz barely made 2 in time for release. If they'd come up with 1 (one) compelling war between altdorf and the inevitable city, with all the race arbitrarily joining in (maybe even leaving the elves out for an expansion) and concentrated on making the basic *game* everything that was warhammer (as in, mounted combat, flying mounts, spells that let you fly, fidelity to things like the magus' disc of tzeentch which is a flying mount that is also a pet--war of everybody against everybody, rather than some arbitrary law vs chaos alignment which doesn't fit the universe), then that would have had potential and any rough spots would have been something a beta tester could work with. But I could tell when I got in that, despite paul's "WoW is a work of flawed genius, and you can't tell which are the flaws and which are the genius, so you have to make your own thing" was bullshit. It was very much like WoW. If it had a strong direction of its own, it could have swum (Mastery of Water!!!!).
In the end, as a tester, I just started saying 'look... just... there's mistakes you're making that you don't have to make...imitate wow's interface so that you at least have a project you can salvage'. I didn't say it like that. I don't like shitting on people while they're making something--it's all about morale. But this thing was doomed. There was no strong direction, just a couple amorphous ideas that were supposed to fit into the standard mmo experience, and, in the end, they threw up their hands in frustration and imitated wow at the wrong points.
It's like you're saying to someone 'look, ify ou want this to work you need to do XYZ' and then they say 'fuck it! Fine. We'll do it your way', and your reaction is 'I didn't fucking tell you to fucking do it my fucking way, dumbshit, I fucking said that if you want it to fucking work, you better fuck do this one fucking thing, if you want to gush blood like a popped tick that is also experiencing a heavy flow and give the fuck up, you better not fucking blame me for it, fuckhead. Fuck.'
it's like that.
