Here is something i found on the boards I ddi not know.

The basic riding book gave me certain abilities when I bought it and read it (you have to right click it in your inventory after you bought it).

Mammoth Sweep
Mammoth Charge
Rhino Sweep
Rhino Charge
Trample
Hind Kick
Mounted Charge

I've heard that you cannot even mount one of the horses without reading the basic riding book, but you can mount one of the preorder mammoths or rhinos without it.

That looked like it was in a PvP area? or PvP server? Since that one person attacked him.

When you train basic riding skills you get special attack abilities on horse/mammoth/rhino.
Mounts are pretty cool in this game for sure.

Just remember to sheath/unsheath your weapon after you mount...so you go faster :)
