Okay... I know that those Lions that were priviledged enough to get into Beta Testing on Mythic's Warhammer are not allowed to talk about the game because of the NDA...

BUT... for those that have played both in Warhammer Beta and are now playing Age of Conan...

How would you say AoC compares to WH in quality?

I know we'll all try WH when it comes out...

Warhammer is one of the worst games I've ever played. It's like WoW without the polish. And I don't mean 'oh it's beta blah blah'. I mean, the ideas that go into it are completely halfassed alternatives to WoW that are alternatives for the sake of themselves, when WoW was taking the best route to implement whatever it was. Also their environments are full of great art which is totally disjointed and screwed up and looks like crap as a consequence. They didn't pay any attention to making the environment cohesive or passable, so it's just a morass of shit, and the palette isn't differentiated enough except in a couple screenshots which aren't representative of the majority of the game. The basic gameplay is clunky--you can't count on your button presses doing anything, and everything you do is unnecessarily slow and painful--the basic 'average' time it takes to kill something is too long, and the difference in difficulty between levels is far far far far too great. Everything innovative they promised either hasn't materialized or has been revamped to be more like wow (only suckier).

I wouldn't fuck WHO with bedpost's dick.

WHO has some deep and serious issues.

Firstly the combat just plain sucks compared to AOC, and isnt very good compared to the recent MMO releases. Sure there are nice abilities etc, but you cant detemine if your blocking, parring, evading or whatever. Its just a battle of the life bars.
Combat does take way to long.
I had like 2k hits at level 20, and i can hit for around 80 damage ! throw in a few healers, and a couple well organized groups fighting against each other will never actually die.
Diversity of mobs, playing the Elven test phase, the first 20 levels the mobs i had to kill were 98% dark elves. I was so tired of killing dark elves i went and rolled one :)

The background feeling to the game though is pretty good, playing a greenback is funneh, if you like random farting and the quests being very chaotic in nature (as a greenback).

All in all its chalk and cheese, but we are still 5 months from the new release date and they just started a new greenback vs dwarf test phase (a 4 gig download), but i wont be playing this yet cuz of AOC of course :)

I dont think they will have it for October, but expect it to be released next May, whether its ready or not.

You should have seen LoTRO 12 months before release, it was a total mess. But, they got it together and relased what i feel was the best PVE MMO ever befor endgame (endgame sucks).

Only time will tell

AoC has much more longterm potential for me, especially if they implement the PvP/siege as well as it's supposed to be. Tonight I was in a group that was in combat for over an hour. By that I mean that we didn't stop to rest for over 60 minutes. The combat system is fantastic thus far, without making leveling too easy.

As long as everyone fulfills their role, the battles are stimulating and require constant attention (none of this 'click style #3 button for half an hour b.s.) without being overly complex. Warhammer is going to try to make battles dynamic by giving everybody hundreds of abilities, which just makes it hard to learn and even harder to enjoy. In the end, any normal gamer will use a maximum of 10 abilities regularly- AoC has decided to perfect a few abilities rather than give you 100 shitty ones.
