In case you haven’t been on much lately, I would like to announce the recruitment to several new members to the kin (including Nim!)

I had recruited these new members to strengthen our end-game ability and push the kin over the critical mass level for raiding. We have a lot of different subgroups in the kin. Some want to just mess around with alts and friends, some want to pvp, some want to see endgame encounters, some are just social butterflies. Every group seems to be fairly satisfied right now EXCEPT the endgamers, so I am hoping this will help.

We should now be at the point where forming a 12 man rift run will no longer be an issue (all kin raids ftw). As a matter of fact, invites should quickly become competitive. As far as I can tell, Minis are the only class that will almost always be guaranteed a spot :) I want us to be competing (although friendly) with one another to earn rift spots. Those that put in the time and effort to push the kin forward will be rewarded with being picked for raids.

For the new members and old members alike, there are a few things you should know about the kin.

1. This is a great kin and there are almost endless people that are willing to help each other out. We have a LOT of very talented players.
2. We have tons of GM crafters. All of which are happy to make you items if given supplies. We never charge kin members if all supplies are given.
3. The kin house rules are all based on trust. We have open chests, but expect you to add as much value as you take out. This is a take a penny leave a penny type of setup.
4. There is a large portion of the kin that wants to focus on beating the Rift and other instances. If you want to partake in these raids, I expect you to put in the time to farm traits and consumables. Don’t expect to be spoon fed gear.
5. Organize and be leader, don’t hold back. If you want to organize a pvp night, a trait grinding night, a trophy run for the kin house, or something else... do it! Post a thread with a time and date and go for it. Dont complain about something that the kin is not doing unless you have tried to organize a group or raid to accomplish it.

I expect people to help push this kin forward. If this means dieing to Thrang and the Balrog over and over.. so be it :) Repair costs are not that big of a deal and I think we all know it. This game is easy as heck to make money in and the officers have eve built up a kin fund to help reduce the amount of individuals need to spend on raiding.

Above all else, attitude means more than any amount of skill. I would rather wipe 4 times with people that keep their spirits up then run through the rift with elitists with crappy attitude. Many of our top players have easy access to join elitist kins, but chose to stay here because LIONS RULE!

Kin Don'ts...
1. Don’t show up and expect an invite to a raid with level 2-3 traits. Everyone should be able to get to 5-6s at the very least.
2. Don’t get greedy. Always think about the other people in the kin... if you are getting more than your fair share and want more, expect a boot :)
3. Don’t make a group of people wait for you. Your time is not more valuable than theirs.

Holy crap, i didnt mean for this to be this long :rolly:

Welcome to the new Members!

Now I have a question... Where can people like me go to really learn how to use a toon to their best effect?

I got caught up in the "Too many alts" trap and have put 3 of them in semi-Mule stasis which mean I am leveling their crafts in order to supply the needs of my fighting alts but not really working on their fighting levels.

The two I have left out are Caerylwyn (LM) and Willowing (HNTR) but I am going to work first on Caer to 50.

I really want to learn how to use each class to fullest effect.

I also want to have fun while doing it with other people AND I want to run the Rift and other raids!

So... where do I go to learn? I have sort of run into a brick wall :bang: even though Isee, Cainman and Kitty have been helping (among others).

I don't want to hold others back while they help either and a lvl 50 helping a lvl 41 does take time away from them actually getting xp and real level appropriate goodies. To me that is just abusing a friendship.

I did have fun last night trying to run the fence with the group :rolly: ... never made it but I sure want one of those kegs! May have to spend lots of time trying to run that fence this weekend.:hump:

First of all a warm welcome to everyone we've added over the last week or so! I think that our rift run last night showed the value that all of you brought to the kin with your skill. I also think that every one of you has shown the value as people that you brought with you before you ever joined, awesome awesome bunch of folks and getting better with every addition.

Caer, my advice to you in learning more about your class is to read, observe, and then experiment. Read the lotro forums in the class specific sections, but NOT just loremaster and hunter. Every section has a 'what I wish other classes knew about our class' thread and I found those invaluable in learning what to consider when grouping with other folks. You'll learn things like how guards hate it when hunters aggro everything in sight before the tank has a chance to build some hate :). You'll also learn a bit about what your class's main responsibilities are in a group by reading in it's forum section. Observe people who have a reputation for being good at their class, in this case you are in luck because we have more than a few VERY good loremasters and hunters in this kin. I won't name names because they all pretty much rock. Then just practice and think outside the box :).

Great job last night! We are moving along nicely.

About LMs:
I can tell you right now that playing a Loremaster well involves taking crack beforehand. Seriously, LMs need to be able to multitask and have a fast reaction time.

I usually will mez a target, then instantly pick out the biggest baddie left and start debuffing him (or try for an aoe if all there are no other elites), then I switch to aoes or stuns depending on the situation. All the while i watch my mez cooldown and switch back to my mez target as soon as it is up again, then repeat the whole process. Oh and did i mention during this I watch everyone's power, steal power from mobs, and keep the minis tapped off :) and dont forget to heal when needed, lol.

As a LM you need to be aware of resists (know who is mezzing who and be ready to pick somethign up if a mez is resisted). You also need to know timing. For example, if your mez gets resisted... as long as you tried to apply it as soon as your mez was up you should only need to worry about the mob being loose for 2-3 seconds. In this case you can wait until the 1st mez is just about to break and then stun the target (stun and mez are not the same so they dont make target immune). By the time the stun breaks the mez should be up... so no loose mob :)

all classes are like that caer, and welcome (finally) to those new lions..who should have been lions to the start *cough nim and hald* but it all worked out in the end, since korn and achillius are a great welcome..as long as i was in the rift, it was a beautiful run, and the fact that you finished 11 man shows how strong we have become, both the old and new kin members! sporto that is great advice, tho personally ive never bothered to read any of the forums, but im an old gamer in a new game, so i learned long ago the value of knowing the limitations of other classes, plus i have pc whining at me when i ask to much of his tank :P welcome all!

Thank you all for the warm welcome and for inviting us to join you all in an adventure that doesn't end when you become 50. Although I enjoyed my time in Knights of Annuminas and made some wonderful friendships there I feel like I am home again among friends to have fun at a game and share laughs at others expense. :rolly: just kidding. hehe Seriously though, I am looking forward to getting to know those I've not met before and those that I have. I can say that it feels good to have Legion of Lions proudly displayed under my name. :D See you all in game!!

I guess you can tell I've played way too much since open beta, lol. Just ask my wife. :D I would love to start my guard in the rift since I have not taken him yet. But, I will play whatever character you guys want for as long as it takes in order to be successful. I really want to thank you guys for taking the time to help me ingame with quests and class items.

That's kind of you to offer Kitty. I was wondering if it would be ok for me to run my guard for the first few bosses this Friday? I've built him up pretty strong. After that, I can switch back to my minstrel (Achilleus). If it's not possible, I understand. Or, if nobody needs the boots, then maybe I can run my guard on just the first boss to get them and then switch back to Achilleus. It's up to you guys, I just appreciate being a part of this. :)

With the new chest system in the rift, is it possible to kill a boss and then before opening the chest which a toon in for loot? Anyone know?

Yeah, I'm a forum reader, but my main point was that sometimes the best way to learn what your class needs to be doing in a group is to read what the other classes biggest complaints are in general. I've read the 'what i wish other classes new about my class' threads in the lotro forums for each class, and it was invaluable (learning more from others failures than from my success kind of thing).

As for Ach bringing his guard for this trip to the rift on Friday, he can take my place. I am leaving Saturday morning for a business trip and am a tad burned out on spending 5+ hours every night in one instance. I will probably be ON Friday night, so if I'm needed to help out then I'm there, but if not then I will be PvP'ing, farming, or working on an alt.

I would like to raid with my guard not only for the armour, but to get some good raid experience as well with him. I have been playing my guard quite a bit lately trying to get through the books. I'm on 10.3 right now and will hopefully get through 12 pretty soon. The rewards for bk 12 are more important to my guard than they are for my minstrel. :)

Howdy all. Thanks for bringing me on with Nim et al. I have only joined with my minstrel Bokodis at the moment but the rift run with my main LM, Bokowing, was great! Had fun and actually won the leggings i was hoping for

So looking forward to hanging with everyone. I am working on leveling up the crafters in my stable but so far only have GM cook and farmer, master jeweler, artisan metalsmith, weaponsmith and tailor.
