I tried a bit of sniping on the jail break map last night and I pretty much got my ass handed to me but I bet it would be really satisfying being an asshole from afar.

A couple thoughts:

- Cover is nice for peeking out, shooting then reloading while hidden. I think that was my first mistake since I was just out in the open rather than behind a rock.

- Keeping moving still is important to avoid being hit by other snipers but this makes aiming more difficult. So much pressure...so little time I get all nervous and jumpy.

- the full damage of the snipe rifle doesnt go into effect unless you keep it zoomed for several seconds and you can see that in the scope as a % amount. Of course that make you a target too.

- I am really excellent with a target standing still but good players keep moving and jumping which makes it hard. Everyone seemed too spastic for me to aim. I really need to practice getting the target dot stationary in front of a moving person and have them move into my line of sight rather than chasing them perhaps. Or perhaps I need to practice moving the crosshair alot more so its smooth.

- Spys and scouts are on you like flies on poop

- I read Snipers are only class who get bonus damage for head shots so I do aim for the head

Yes, only Snipers get head shots.

For full power, hide behind cover with Scope up... generate to 100%, then, move to find a target. Just know your territory, know when targes 'should' be available, and, always aim at head height, even when moving into position.

After you fire, keep moving. However, if another Sniper has you lined up in his Scope, your a slow moving target. Easy kill. Try crouching once in a while during reload, will throw off the other Sniper's timing.

Snipers must die. That is all.

And a good demo man is kind of annoying too.

You play mostly Heavy/Medic classes and those are a big "kill me" sign for snipers and spys.

Yep, I kind of like soldier too. But I definitely gravitate to healing or tanking.

Maudi speaks so much truth. As I was reading Grundy's post I was thinking of advice to give and this sums up everything I had very well.

Power up first then move out. After you shoot move immediatly to cover and try to come out from a new spot (I believe they call this displacing?).

Sniper can be fun and head shots are the key. Heavy's will fear you.

Also as you mentioned, I let people move into my crosshair. I usually track slowly ahead of them until they catch my crosshair then fire.

Another suggestion is get close to a wall and zoom in and shoot to learn the time it takes from your mouse click and the actual fire. Your lag time in essence. This may not really mean much anymore but it is still something I am used to doing from playing Tribes back on my 33.6.
