Turbine Down Again?

Well it seems that Turbine servers are down again, which is the second time in three weeks. I'm new to the online gaming scene and want to know is this a common problem with all online games?

Uhm.. Some do maintenance at this on a weekly basis.
But certain problems can creep up on them were they have to take the server down... On all the online games I've played/play It doesn't happen that often really. But when it does they normally try to tell people how long things will be down and when they get them back up what happened.
