That's the Avro Arrow. A Canadian warplane built in the mid-50's. It was slated to do mach 2.6, and would easily rival planes of today.

The Cdn. Government decided at the time, that it was too expensive and that we should build missiles instead. Then we went non-nuclear shortly after.

Most of this planes designers went south and worked for NASA.
