I believe Brey, Klin and Nuke are all still playing.
I liked the game when I played. I got to level 18 which wasn't to tough. The title system they have is pretty neat. And you can get bonuses that you have to equip to your character from killing certain monsters so many times. Bonus to stats or abilities from the ones I say. The xp system is like WoW's from what I could tell. You'll get the same xp from mob's all the time no matter your level but you get tons from doing quests. So questing is the way to go to get your levels really.
For crafting it's not to bad a system. You have to gather your materials, also similar to WoW's if I remember right. I didn't get to high in my trade so I'm not to sure on getting more recipe's. But I liked the crafter for what I've done in it. Though only 1 character can do 1 craft skill at a time.

Aye, Brey, Klin and I are still playing there. Also see Bear on from time to time. When you get in look us up. We will help you any way we can. And i will be honest; the game is OK and a fun placeholder till something comes along, but it is not great. The lack of PvP just bothers me. So its fun for now so come on in and I will PL ya :)

k, I'll be there. I started a hunter on brandywine and just go through the intro quests, so I just learned the game play. I can probably run through those a lot quicker now that I understand how things work and where things are in the intro areas.

I haven't had a lot of time to play, but things are slowly getting better for me. Next week should mark the end of my crazy work schedule. Heck, even this week is a vast improvement over the past 4 weeks. I have been working 60-70 hours a week since the beginning of June. I long for a 40-45 hour work week :)
My brother has been playing around on my account a bit tho, so I am not too far behind where I should be. He is my personal 3rd world PLing service.
My Loremaster is at 33... and I love playing him. I also have a champion that is in the low 20s atm (my brother is playing him mostly... I only played him from 1-10).
I haven't been on in over a week due to the move, but I will be on this week prolly.. if not this week, definitely next week.

Both of you should try it. I've been playing for little spurts at a time, but it gets old when you do PUGs that get you killed all the time. If I had a group of lions, at least I would be dieing with fun people.

You can probably catch up with how slow we all seem to be leveling :)
Hardcore playing and LOTRO don't really seem to mix for some reason.

What are the perks of this game? As in, how's the combat system and additionally, I'm a big (BIG) LoTR trilogy fan (books not the movies...the movies were so-so imho)..so would I be able to travel the country-side and get a sense for middle earth, or would it just be mindless grinding, just in different environments?

There is a lot of LOTR in the game. You can explore some areas (The shire, Bree, Rivendel), but there is a lot of middle earth that is not there (probably some of it will come in expansions).
Here is a google maps mashup to show you what areas you can explore:
http://www.arda-online.com/map/
You'll see people from the books (Tom Bombadil included) and some other people that have been added to suit the game.
The game is VERY quest based, moreso than WoW even. There is no point grinding in the game because the quests give much more exp. At level 16 or 17 a monster may give you 50-75xp, while a quest at that level will easily earn you 1000-1200 xp.
The only reason you grind is because you have a gathering or killing quest that requires grinding a few monsters to complete it.

What's the combat system like?

It's not real time. I find it similar to WoW in the fact that certain actions take a few seconds to perform and have RUTs. You can queue up one action once your current action is in progress.
I have played a Minstrel and a Hunter, so I can tell you a bit more about those.
For Minsterls there are spells that are tier based, so you have to perform one from tier 1 before any tier 2 spells are available and the same for tier 3 spells.
The minstrel is the main healing class in LOTRO, but they can hold their own soloing (as far as I can see right now).
Hunters have both ranged and hand to hand combat skills, along with a fear spell. From what I have read the hunter is the biggest DPS class, focusing a lot on single target damage. They also have a bit of CC with traps. Overall, it is a fun class to play.
There really is no pure magic class. The lore master might be considered the most magical, but they are really a pet class.
I haven't played a burglar, champion, captain, loremaster or guardian, so I can't speak to how their combat really works.

champions have combo points attacks, much like rogues in WoW
Loremaster is a CC / Debuffer with a pet... kind of an odd collection of abilities, but very useful in a group.

What's the max level? Is there pvp?
kitty
08-15-2007, 06:26 PM
the max level is 50, and there is pvp in the ettenmoors, but its monsterplay. So..you can be a good guy you level from 1, or you can play a baddie that starts at 50 (baddies are much more fun, but way harder). There are quests etc. for the monster play folks to earn skills etc.. :)

Monster play is great, because you can start playing a level 50 monster when your main is a level 10.
