So....Today NYC Mayor Bloomberg (a billionaire) left the GOP party.

http://wcbstv.com/topstories/local_story_170181024.html

Alot of people speculate he will run as an independent and screw the Dems like Ross Perot did.

Yesterday he gave a speech talking about the wretched state of the US and petty Washington politics like an outsider Presidential hopeful.

Dem's dont need anyone to screw them over these day's. They do a good enough job on their own.

We need more 3rd party candidates. Personally I would love to see every single Dem and Republican have their asses thrown out of office.

Depends on which end of the political spectrum they come in on. We don't need wingnuts like Ralph Nader running on platforms of "Like brand A, but worse".

We need new ideals. If that includes some so called 'wingnuts' in the race I am all for it. Our current system has failed and I trust neither party.

The problem with wingnuts is that they don't provide new ideas, just a super-concentrated dose of the same stupidity. If the GOP wants to give tax cuts to the wealthy, the wingnut wants a flat tax that would abolish the progressive tax system.

I'll take a flat tax and taxed legalized drugs over the current system any day. Guess I'm a wingnut.

I'm a wingnut too, I'm a fairtax.org advocate. The IRS can suck a goatnut.

I want Ron Paul to win just so he can destroy the IRS. ;)

Keep in mind that to be a true flat tax, we're talking about abolishing welfare, and any other kind of poverty vs. wealth based spending. Otherwise you're just letting the elephant back in the room under another name.

The reason I don't care for fairtax is because all they're doing is pushing a reset button - going to a flat tax with income-based exemptions that will just get bigger as politicians try to get elected.

As a people we have decided that when a rich guy and his poor buddy buy a pizza, its only decent that the rich guy pay a larger share of the bill, even though they both eat half of the same pizza. Its really that simple.

Clinton v Bloomberg v Guiliani would be an all NYC ballot and they are all Democrats.

When did Guliani become a demo?

or are you just saying he's a democrat in republican clothes?

The thing that appeals to me about Bloomberg is that he is first and foremost a businessman. I voted for Ross on both occasions because I felt this goverment needed a changed outlook on things. Sadly, I know more of Ross than I do of Bloomberg, but if he is different from the rest it can't be a bad thing IMO.

Tamm - IMO, Drug tests for welfare recipients is a must. If we are to help the needy, they need to deserve it. In addition, we have too many tax exemptions still....

The sad truth is that more than likely the shit that we deal with in our day to day lives will still be here for our grandchildren unless something radical changes.

I think thats probably true, but on the other hand, a lot of the shit that your grandfathers dealt with in their day to day lives is still here for you. Still, you have to agree that today is better than a decade ago, which is better than a decade before that.

Yes, you can argue that it was in spite of our leaders rather than because of them, in which case we should pat ourselves on the back for electing bunglers and dimwits, rather than competent oppressors like other countries have been saddled with.

Depends on your measuring stick Tamm.

The measuring stick I use is pretty simple - how much time do people have for non-survival-based activities (leisure time). Life without civilization (rooting for grubs, dodging lions) vs. life with civilization (posting messages about how much life sucks). Leisure time produces our scientists and workers, who invent and build things that make survival activities easier, which frees up more leisure time and so on. It also produces our lawyers, politicians, deadbeats and crooks. Leisure time creates the good and the bad. Or everyone could be peasants harvesting grain with wood and stone sickles.

I think the US peaked in the early 90s.. i think with the current trade aggrements and gov't we will only decline.
