alright, so i get everything installed, everything is all good. load up daoc, everything is all good for about a minute and a half or so, then bam, xp version of blue screen, reboot. try bumping the resolution down, same thing

moral of the story is, whenever i try to play daoc it either blue screens, locks up, or sends the sounds into an infinite loop while locking up. the only thing i can do after that is reboot.

i was reading ign's camelot tech boards, and TONS of people are having this exact problem, mostly since 1.50 came out. people think it is an ambient sound problem.

my specs

windows xp pro

asus a7n266-c mb
athlon xp 1900+ 1.6ghz
visiontek geforce 4 ti4400
soundblaster live! value
512mb crucial ddr ram

so, disabled all sound and music, still does it.
made sure that there were no irq conflicts, still does it.
updated all drivers, from soundcard, to videocard, to agp, still does it.
downgraded all these drivers looking for a combo that works, still does it.
disabled my sound card in the device manager, still does it.
took my sound card out of my computer, still does it.
went into the dxdiag to look for inactive drivers like in the mythic support emails, still does it.

i have only seen one person fix their problem, and they had to go buy a new motherboard to do it. i'm not about to go do this. everything else is working fine.

if anyone knows a way to fix this, i'm open to suggestions. otherwise, tell me when the next patch comes out so i can see if mythic has fixed the bug :p

Try video drivers 23.12.

Not sure they'll be that good with GF4... but hey..

You must have directx 8.1 with that videocard.. if that helps?

you have to love the response...'get a new motherboard'

the moral to this story is that daoc was designed on a half crocked graphics engine. I would put it pretty close to being shareware, so when they release this wonderfull new expansion. Its going to be on the new and improved half crocked graphics engine.

We're getting bent over on this compatability issue, and their response is ..... buy a new computer.

I really hope mythic gets a clue....soon:hump:

sends the sounds into an infinite loop while locking up. the only thing i can do after that is reboot.

That sounds exactly like what my computer was doing with DAoC. My issue was video related. I wound up getting a new video card and that fixed my problem. If you have your old one lying around I'd try that one and see if that works.

Anyway that's my 2c.

I get the sound loop too, it lasts about 3 loops while frozen, then clicks right back in again for me. It happens very rarely and hasn't gotten in my way.

I'm using the GF4 Ti-4600, m0b0=P4B-266.

If I was still in New Olreans I would go to the French Quarter and pay some voodoo lady to abracadabra your computer. :/

Have you tried begging it to work?

ok, i was playing ut yesterday, like for 5 hours straight, and then it did basically the same blue screen, so i knew something was up no matter what the tech forums said.

i went and played around with more drivers, then uninstalled a bunch of drivers, then went and got some other wierd drivers for the nvidia part of my mobo, but got rid of all the sound related ones that kept getting installed. then i made sure there were still no irq conflicts and reinstalled sb live! drivers.

moral of the story, i played daoc for about an hour and some last night with no problems in fancy 1024 x 768 or whatever last night at turbo lightning sweet speed with no stuttering or bogging down :D i'mma try 1280 x 1024 today :)

i think it was a conflict between the motherboards built in sound drivers and the soundblaster live drivers and so when daoc's flakey ambient noises kick in, bloop, or the graphics card and the agp drivers, or a combination between the two.

ok, that made me sound fancy, i really don't know what it means, but i may have fixed my problems. i try playing for a long time in a row today and see if i crash at all :)

I played at 1280x1024 on my GeForce2 & 1.4GHz T-Bird ... you should have no problems at all.

(Oh yeah, I got an AMD XP2000+ now {1.667GHz})

wank don't forget to install the super high-res textures from the second disk and run in opengl (if you don't mind the no-animation bug on some servers, haven't seen it in a while) because they look soooo much better

Don't forget to shake a dead, dried lizard around the computer while chanting "fu mo gway gway fai dee tsao". Done properly, this chi spell will encircle your computer in a neon green energy.

Uhh.. Spyder.. he was talking DAoC. :D

Unless DAoC had a 2nd CD for cooler textures, in which case I'd be pissed. :D

i was playing with the nice textures yesterday :) i still haven't tried ut since i fixed daoc, but i'm guessing things will only get better and they were already beautiful :)
