so i'm driving home and theres 2 motorcycle guys in front of me taking up both lanes(doing 50-55 each in a 60mph zone) so after 5min of them doing it, i start flashing them to move into the same lane...

so after i finally pass them, i hit the tunnel at the top of the hill. and just cruise down it since the rest of the road is all down-hill.

my truck is a 02 nissan frontier, 4-cyclinder, so you have an idea that my truck has a hard time going near 80.

they tag me at 76, and i didn't even see them until i left the tunnel and they were off the road about 50ft to the side, so theres 0 visibility.

should i pay? or challenge?

he showed me the radargun, but theres no date/time when the reading was taken.

You are supposed to make sure you are less than 15 miles over the speed limit when you get caught, stupid.

I looked at the Hawaii DMV site and it looks like all you do is pay money rather than go to court. http://www.dmv.org/hi-hawaii/paying-tickets.php

Be glad you weren't on your bike ;)

If you challenge the tickent, just hope the cops don't come to court. I challenged 3 speeding tickets and the cops never showed so I got away with it. None of my tickets involved a radar gun though.

guess i'll figure out what to do with it later. stupid speed trap...

my bike would have been better, cause i can go from 80 to 60 in a couple of seconds

when i passed them, i was doing 60 too..

It doesnt matter if you challange or not----if they show up your screwed, especially if they showed you the radar. I always go to court hoping the cops dont show but so far they always have. I would plead no contest/not guilty and tell the judge i was just coasting down a steep hill and was braking that the time they saw me, but they will still probably fine you anyways. :( they like there speed trap money too much

I got a 95 in a 65 back in August.. I just paid the stupid thing because I was about 100 miles from home. Court date would have been bad.

Worst loss of $250 ever. :(

I had a rash of about 5 tickets in a row 2 years ago. Had to go in for an interview to keep my license, and had an accident on top of it. My insurance skyrocketed. It's just now coming back down again after driving slowly for 2 years and not getting a ticket.

I will always apply for court and hope to get off in some way/shape/form. If not, at least you tried.

But I had one ticket in NY State that I couldn't fight because I'm not driving 6 hours to fight a $110 ticket. I was surprised when the points showed up on my license report. US tickets shouldn't count in Canada.

I've had a lot of moving violations over the years but none of them showed up in my records because I went to court to fight it off or I was able to take driver's ed to remove the points. This occurred right after I bought a new red sports car. The cops were all over me wherever I went. Now cops don't bother me anymore for the last two years which has been nice.

hawaii doesn't have a point system...guess i'll pay it....i'd loose more money if i skip work to challenge it...

Can't you do driver's ed?

lukaris

not really....seems like a clear cut case...hardly speeding imo and got unlucky.

arn't any big penalties unless you go 30 over posted or 80 (whichever comes fist) then you get slammed with the nasty stuff.

Maybe you misunderstood. Most states will let you pay a fine and do a Defensive Driving course. That keeps the ticket off your record. That's what I meant. ;)

There is no penalty for challenging a ticket, Lukaris. Always always always challenge it. The fine will at the very LEAST be reduced.

Here's what happened to me the other night:

Cop: Sir, you realize that your tabs are expired, you aren't carrying your insurance card, you don't have your registration, and your Driver's License has expired? That's two misdemeanors and two traffic violations, adding up to about $1450 in fines if I don't choose to arrest you

Me: (pathetic face)

Cop: Just a sec.

(Cop walks back to his car for about half an hour and comes back)

Cop: You're a firefighter?

Me: Certified and bound.

Cop: Be more careful. Here's your license back.

THE END

Man I wish I lived in HI. Here in the police state of SC you get 4 points on your license for going 11 mph over the limit.

theres just way too many people living here for them to try any effective improvments...and their allways hiring for cops, but make it hard for people that don't have a "connection" to get in...nothing but corruption everywhere now-days
