Ok, now...CHARGE the ENEMA!

I am not sure who designed the DAOC application architecture for Mythic but it looks like the individual servers can handle about 3000 concurrent users maximum. However each server is a vaccuum (an island, if you will) isolated from each other ineffect partitioning the 30k or more online characters that the network handles. So instead of having thousands of Hibbies we got about 500 max at any given time in our realm. This alone severely limits our crafting market and our ability to find groups at 3 am on Sunday.

IBM (my employer btw) recently announced the development of a gaming grid that could handle millions of users in one single space. The grid architecture is based on racks of linux server clusters and would support a range of client gaming devices.

Maybe I should put in for a job transfer...Lead Developer for MMG! Experienced Elf Pooka Nuka seeking position!

Imagine 1 million UT players DMing on a huge DAoC sized map?

I think I would faint.

are the new ibm boxes Zseries? Servers scale to demand, and are emulated on a mainframe. The client can barely handle the load at present, could you imagine the lag of a 100k in a RVR battle?

I just wish they would let us play our dudes on any server we wanted. To even out population, and put caps on server populations. Crafting would be a lot more profitable, and you could create cross server parties at 4:00 in the morning.

I think the game needs to have more people half the time, and less people at others.. because sometimes you can't find any good monster camps because there are already people there =)

Then other times you do a /who and you get back like 18, and all of them are afk in TNN
