Shrouded Isles Appear Over the Horizon

of Online Hit Dark Age of Camelot

MYTHIC ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES EXPANSION FOR ITS WORLDWIDE HIT ONLINE GAME DARK AGE OF CAMELOT

FAIRFAX, VA – MAY 15, 2002 – Mythic Entertainment (www.mythicentertainment.com), creator of the multiple award winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Dark Age of Camelot, today announced that the game's highly anticipated first expansion pack is currently in development. Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles is set for a late 2002 release and will continue setting new standards for online game-play. The game will be developed by Mythic Entertainment and co-published with Abandon Entertainment (www.abandonent.com).

Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles enriches and expands the mythological fantasy world of the original game by adding stunning new graphics and whole new areas to explore for each Realm. Players of Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles will also discover that the Realms will be populated with three new races and new character classes. As previously announced, the expansion will include a significant graphical upgrade to the game by utilizing DirectX 8.1 and the new NetImmerse 3D engine version 4.0 from Numerical Design Limited. This new technology will greatly improve overall graphical performance as well as provide support for advanced graphical features such as shadowing, more spectacular spell effects/animations, reflective surfaces, and much more.

“With the tremendous success of the original game, it made sense for us to start development on Shrouded Isles immediately,” explained Mark Jacobs, President of Mythic Entertainment. “Shrouded Isles will add to the experience that has excited and intrigued players to date while updating the visual experience to draw them further into the worlds of Hibernia, Albion and Midgard.”

Having recently passed the 200,000 mark for active subscribers worldwide after only seven months on the market, the original Dark Age of Camelot continues to excite the MMORPG world. With the games continued growth, including upcoming releases in the fertile Japanese and Korean markets, it won’t be long before Dark Age of Camelot is competing for the number one MMORPG worldwide.

I saw that over on Camelot Vault. I hope it's keen. Wonder what classes and abilities are going to be added.

It's going to be using the same engine that Morrowind's using, right? Anyone know if it'll crap out on a Voodoo5?

It would be nice if they would fix the current problems before they introduce an expansion pack.

I've lost a lost of faith in Mythic the past month and will probably cancel my account soon.

omg, lol. I read this thread and was thinking the same thing - that fixes to the current problems with the game might be better appreciated than an expansion pack. As it is now, I feel like Mythic is attempting to throw the spotlight in a different direction by announcing this. I only hope that with all this new stuff comes fixes for old bugs(such as the ubiquitous Bowman bug) and class balance issues.

I hear ya Y5. My first thought was "Why put out an expansion for a game that's still in beta?" I think I'm one of the lucky ones that's playing a class that is in decent shape right now. Imma enjoy my chanter till Mythic decides to "balance" it. I think Druids still rock too, I just wasn't as good with it.

I am thinking of respecing and dropping pet to minimum. I find pet only good in rvr for chasing stealthers. I think higher buffs and healing might be better

that's always been the case... as soon as something gets popular, they start on a sequel in some form or other.

Considering how "equal" all the races are, Why not add 30 new races? Just tweak a few stats up and down here and there... Realistically, the only difference between the three races are graphics - appearance of the character, his skills/spells/equipment and his NPCS. Monsters are the same, enviornment is roughly the same... each class is called something different, but each race has 1 each of an equivalent race (ok, the nightshade gets a DD spell. yay.) and attributes, with the exception of the troll, really don't vary so much. Reminds me of WarCraft 2.

Hopefully they will take the time to do the expack properly, and it wont have signs of being rushed out (like Hibernia... man, even the NAME hibernia sounds rushed....) but other than prettier graphics and a new place to play in, I don't really expect a whole lot from DAoC. I don't see how they would suddenly create drastic difference with the new classes when they've spent so much time balancing/equalling (Unlike, say, Starcraft where there were true differences that Truly balanced one another).

On another note, I imagine they will do something like new races can only play in the isle region... because how will people who refuse to upgrade see you? Unless they make it so that people who upgrade and people who don't can't play together, but that sounds like they would need to put you on a whole new server....
