For the Christmas table

4 herrings
2 red onions
1 dl vinegar essence 12%
1,5 dl suger
10 allspice, whole
2 bay leaf
2 dl water

Clean the herrings file in cold water and cut them in 3-4cm pieces
cut the onions in half and slice them thin
cook the water, vinegar and suger and let it cool down
put all in the jar and pour water mixure so it covers
store the jar in refrigerator at least 2 days before serving

Interesting... is the fish still raw? I've like.. no idea on pickling and stuff.

kinda, it gets "cooked" in the 2 days it lays in the mixture but its more like sushi then any real cooked dish

My wife ate some while we were in Denmark and liked it but fish has to be well cooked for me to eat it.

My husband's family does something similar at Christmas. But instead of vinegar for the pickling they use lemon and lime juice, and instead of herring it's scallops, mussels, and some sort of white fish. It's super yummy!
