Folks, regardless of your political interests, please vote tomorrow (or before for those of you doing the absentee thing). Regardless of how futile you might feel that it is, its your right and it should be taken advantage of.

Lots of votes for Cavan... Watch out though, if they find out you voted for a Democrat they might try to deport you :D

Voted this morning. Very low turnout here based on what I saw. It didn't help that it's raining here. Anyway, we have had electronic voting here the last few elections and it gets better each time. The machine I used this morning was touch screen, but actually had a paper tape that printed my choices as I voted. When I finished it scrolled up so that the next voter couldn't see my choices. The only thing I didn't like was that they have abandoned the booths. The poll workers could pretty easily see who I was voting for if they wanted too. I guess there is more concern about tampering with the equipment than with privacy.

I'm not voting today.

I'm not voting today.

Why not? here in Ohio you don't even have to show ID. Just pick a common name and you probably could vote in multiple locations.

Of course you can. Who would want to go to Ohio?

Well there are only 32 million people in Canada. There are over 11 million people in Ohio. So apparently there is over 1/3rd of the entire population of Canada in Ohio. I'm guessing at least half of them don't mind living here. At least we get to go outside more then a couple weeks out of the year without snow

I was looking at gaming companies in Canada and found this little statement funny about Edmonton, Alberta Canada.... (Directly from website about the climate)...

http://www.edmonton.com/categorydocuments/Fact%20Sheets_7/FactSheetQualityofLife0104.pdf

Greater Edmonton enjoys over 2,300 hours of bright sunshine per year, third highest in Canada.

When I first saw this I was like... ahh cool... but then I did the math...

365 days * 24 hours/day = 8760 hours per year.... ahh... SO.. Edmonton is excited that they have sunlight 2300 / 8760 days of the year.. or 26.25% of the time...

Canadians are WEIRD!!!

Umm Bedpost, I have no idea where you are voting at in Ohio, but if you don't provide valid Identification within 10 days of voting your vote doesn't count.

My experience is identical to Hammers. There were very few people there, I didn't have to wait in line at all (contrary to previous years). The touchscreen electronic voting machines didn't have any curtains or other privacy measures, unless you wanted to huddle in close and hold the cover as a shield.

Well I voted in Westerville, I handed my Drivers license over to the registrar and they said, we don't need that... what's your name.

I had a similar thing where there was no one in line when I got there. there were 7 or 8 people in line though when I left. No curtains, just flaps on the sides so that you couldn't see the persons next to you. We were up against a wall though so you coudln't really walk behind the people

I had to fill the circles in with a pen, like a standardized test. But, I had a privacy booth!!

Ha! That's right! Ohio state law changed this year. (http://www.sos.state.oh.us/sos/id/id.htm) You're now required to show some form of ID. I guess the n00bs in Westerville didn't get the memo.

To be fair, you should probably factor night-time out of that equasion there...that'd equate to 50% of the time they have sunlight, which beats San Francisco out :)

No surprise, that they screwed that up to.

They also screw the polls they are showing that the incumbent Mike Dewine is trailing by 63% to 36% to Sherrod Brown. (senator race) I guess it's possible that they are going and polling people only in the Short North area, but that's just silly.

Polls in Ohio are always off by at least 7% or 8% anyway. Each of the last two presidential elections before election day they had Kerry or Gore both winning Ohio by 8%. I guess they thought that wasn't enough of a gap to get republicans to not vote, so they thought they'd make this gap alot more in hopes that people wont go to the polls

Oh and as for sunlight time in edmonton. What good does it do you to have sunlight when it's -30° outside? Or 4 feet of snow on the ground?

Here's my theory about why the polls were so wrong last presidential election. It's because of the difference in personality types between some conservatives and liberals. When confronted with a pollster, I think conservatives are more likely to say, "No thank you." And liberals are more likely to say, "Oh hello there, my fellow human being on planet earth. How can I assist you in your endeavor today?" So, more liberals were polled than conservatives, and the polls were off.

Are you saying liberals are nicer people? or are you saying they are all so stoned that they say things like "my fellow human being on planet earth":rolly:

The polls were likely far more accurate than the actual voting was.

Anyway, I voted absentee a couple weeks ago. They had to send my ballot in via dog sled, because we all know how the climate completely changes when you cross that arbitrary parallel separating the US and Canada...

PS. The only reason Edmonton gets the most sun out of all major cities in Canada is because they're the farthest north major city, duh :P
