View Full Version : Get your wood up!

The story begins on a cold and rainy Hibernian morning.....and ends with linear algebra so watch out!

Weight on my shoulders: I got myself into Lamf very early ahead of the blockades at DL and DC and set myself up close to the inner door by the Gatekeeper for the 3rd door. I volunteered to be on the repair team and a couple peeps brought me wood. It seemed like a buttload of wood cuz i couldnt move...i was cucumbered. Sirsamus told me that by standing by the Gatekeeper we would not get hit by the AE hitting the door and we could still repair. I was excited to repair but bummed cuz I had wanted to PB AE the door myself but now I was to far away and couldnt move.

The horror within: Infiltrators were about....I had placed my lowest level PBAE on my quickbar and started nuking....i found i could do this for over and over without losing any mana. As the siege began the lag started to get bad but i kept nuking...Although the both outer doors were still up eventually I did see "You hit <name> for 10 dmg" messages which means that I really did hit stealthers! My recollection is that throughout the whole seige i never was assassinated by a stealther but I could be wrong.

Kooko, Fran and Ollie: Soon we began to see Albion Pets come thru...bastiges! I didnt know they could come THRU a closed door! But lag was so bad that when a red con Grogan attacked us the entire Door repair team was dead before we knew it! So funny and yet so sad.

I see the light: When I got a rez a funny thing happened...since you spawn inside the rezzer I was no longer in range for door repair. But I was cucumbered so I needed strength buff to move...I got one from Ailia and went back to my place.

And the Walls fell down: The outer door was down and I could see the Rams poking thru the inner door like Groundhog day! The door was being AE by the evil invaders but I was very very safe or was I?.

[ Narrator: I dont know why I didnt think of it then but I want to try this next time....since I was able to target the Siege Ram I should have blasted it! Perhaps even use it as a target for my own ranged AE debuffs. Neuman! ]

Jesus was a carpenter so I fgure..who better to pick as a role model?: So the door started degrading I decided I would try to repair the door. I target the Keep door and type /repair....the system roared back "You dont have enough wood...idiot!". Ohhhh the humanity!!! I knew then that I would need my abacus to figure out how much wood i needed in hiberian wood units using 3 different types of wood in different amounts.

[ after some research I have found that:

1) Relic keep doors spawn at level 8 and may then be upgraded to level 9 and 10. Using the /upgrade tells you what level the door is at. Using /upgrade # where # is the level tells you how much wood in wood units you need to upgrade. It doesnt tell how much in wood units you need to make a repair.

Upgrade level requires wood skill level/50 so level 8 requres skill of 400 and level 10 requires skill 500. So get your wood up!

2) Each repair does 5% heal. Use /repair to do this. This means you need at least 20 heals to fully repair from 0%. A level 8 door requires 27200 wood units for ONE heal.

T = Total units of wood for 1 heal
Uw = wood units for 1 stack of wood for a specifc type w
N = Number of stacks of wood

N = T / Uw

3) Wood units: a 20 count stack of wood for each type must be converted into generic realm wood units as follows:

0020 Rowan
0080 Elm
0160 Oakan
0320 Ironwood
0640 Heartwood
0960 Runewood
1200 Stonewood
1600 Ebonwood
2080 Dyrwood
???? Duskwood

ONE 5% heal on level 8 door:
---------------------------------
Using Ebon: 27200/1600 = 17 stacks * 20/stack = 340 wood
Weight: each stack weighs 5 lbs so 17 * 5 = 85lbs
Cost: 17 * 19.44 = 330.5 g

Total (20) heals on level 8 door:
--------------------------------
For Ebon: 340 * 20 = 6800 wood
Weight: 17 stacks * 5lb * 20 = 1700 lbs
Cost: 17 * 19.44 * 20 = 6p 610g

So apparently I need a TON more wood. lol ]

Death from above: Ok. The inner door was still up so i was not gonna repair anything but maybe I could PBAE the door and kill hundreds if not thousands! So I slowly ambled up to it and BOOM! I exploded in a ball of fire just as i got there. Bummer!

Rezzed by Icewolf away from the door and.......BOOM BOOM BOOM...and then I inexplicably exploded. But How?

[ I learned later that the Albs had Trebs which have an AE effect on impact. Neuman!]

Like Cockroaches: The door was down...they were everywhere...so I released and went to sleep land.

Alas, after releasing I couldnt move so I had to give away 5 stacks of wood to a random keep defender who was going back to Lamf and I don't recall which kind that was so I can't reverse engineer how much wood units I had when I failed to repair.

I still have 80 ebon and 100 Dusk on my toon.

Using advanced 4th dimensional extrapolation techniques I gleaned from my last anal alien probe Im guessing Dusk is 2700 units. (The hyper-symetrical part of me thinks if it was 2720 then a perfect 10 stacks of Duskwood makes ONE heal for a default Relic door)

So that means I have:

4 stacks of Ebon * 1600 = 6600
5 stacks of Dusk * 2700 = 13500
----------------------------------
Total units on my toon = 21000

Nice unit! :D

But seriously, that's why you gotta always repair before you start upgrading. It doesn't costs much at all to repair a level 1 door, and I have upgraded doors from 1-7 (one level at a time, you get ripped off if you go right from 1-7) and it wasn't that expensive. If I did the upgrade first, then tried to repair it, I probably couldn't afford it.

It sucks that relic doors start at 8. This just makes it impossible for us to repair them.

If you use cheaper wood to repair the door, you need a lot more of it, but it still winds up costing less in the long run.

You have 8 slots in an inventory page, and 5 inventory pages. So you can potentially hold 4000 pieces of wood. So that is 200 stacks of wood (200*20=4000). Oaken wood is worth 160 wood units per stack of 20. If you had a full inventory (200 stacks) of oakenwood you would have 32000 wood units (160*200=32000). It costs 27200 units of wood to do one repair on a level 8 door. So with a totally full inventory of oakenwood you can do one repair on a door. With 4000 stacks of oakenwood you can fully repair it. Oak costs 48 silver. So using oak it would cost 1.92 plat to fix it. So theoritically, you save 4.7 plat. But it would just be impossible to get that much wood out there.

Obviously it isnt feasable to expect to bring 4000 stacks of oakenwood to the keep. It would take 20 people with every single inventory spot full of wood, and noone can move with that anyway. It would take 100 people with just the first page of their inventory full of wood. That's kind of ridiculous too.

Ironwood is worth exactly twice the wood units as oak. So 2000 stacks of ironwood could totally repair a level 8 door. 2000 stacks of ironwood costs 2.88 plat. Crazy expensive, but better than 6.6 plat. And you still need 50 people with just the first page of their inventory full of wood to go out there.

Heartwood is worth exactly twice the wood units as ironwood. So 1000 stacks of heartwood could totally repair a level 8 door. 1000 stacks of heartwood cost 4.32 plat. That ain't cheap, but its still saving 2.3 plat over using ebon. And this would take just 25 people with the first page of their inventory full of wood, to get it all out there. That is actually feasible. Hell, if you have a group of 8 Firblog druids and heros, they can carry more than just one page of heartwood and could run it out in maybe 2 trips. Put a bard in that group and it won't be that hard at all to get all the heartwood out there. Sure, its still easier with Ebonwood, but I don't know if its worth paying an extra 2.3 plat.

I can't believe I just figured that all out. I am a very sick man.

Yeah, I'd realized from lurking around assorted forums (and some BG experience) that wood was a handy thing, so I crafted it up to 400 or so and fletched my way up to where it is today.

700+ woodie. I'm here for all your woodie needs. :D

Amusingly, being a caster I can't really carry a lot of it.

A dubious claim to fame. But just think, if I hit 800, I could add 'Master Wood' to my .sig.

Then I'd be one of the cool kids.
