Cool, but why pay someone else when you can break it yourself! :cheese:

cost plus $60 to throw it all together. Then the work's guaranteed and I can take it in if something screws up over the next year.

I just ordered some new parts yesterday, an Asus KR7A and an AthlonXP 1800+ :D I'm hoping it'll get here today so I can put it all together this weekend. Next will be some kind of GF4, probably the Ti4200. Damn you Epic for making me upgrade!

I have a machine that I would like to use for LAN action with my buddies when UT2003 comes out. It is not a powerhouse by an means, but I would like to hook it up to be able to play UT2003 somehow. Here's the deal, it doesn't have an AGP slot and I have a PCI Voodoo 5 card that I would like to use. I know that UT2003 will not support Doodoo cards, but I remember when Tribes 2 hit, even though Doodoo cards were not supported, people used some 3rd party drivers to get it running with their cards (Wicked GL?) Anyway, do any of you nerds have any clue as to how I could get this thing running it? And what OS should I go with to make this work out best?
The box has a PIII 533MHz CPU and 128MB RAM. It has a 256MB max on the RAM, so I plan to add another 128. Any ideas?
Cool, I didn't know they sold computers at CostPlus "WorldMarket" =)

Why not Audigy?
Why not AMD XP?

I got the Platinum about a year ago. That's when I started recording on computer as this card would let me.
I could've got the 1900 for the same price, but Intel's been good to me over the years so I'm sticking with them for now. I also figure I can upgrade the chip in the future without a new m0b0 if needs be.

...oh by the way...
It fn rox!
I gotta do something about my monitor though. It's max refresh rate at 1280*1024 is 60hz. I did a timedemo and it pretty much ran the UT intro at (max) 60fps throughout. A couple of spots it hit 50.
I'd love to see the fps with a monitor that can handle it.
I'm running the NEC Accusync 75f.
Anyone know if I can do something to the monitor settings to make it faster?

A) Good luck getting a newer P4 chip in that thing. If you didn't get a 478, you'll be limited to the slower Williamette P4's (slower than P3's at the same clock speed) -- capped at 2GHz.
If you did get a 478, Northwood's will fit, but I believe they're stopping at 2.6GHz (just a hair faster than AMD XP2100+).
B) Don't try to make that monitor go faster, you'll kill it. I'd get a 19" Trinitron tube if you can. I love'm.
1900+ for the same price as an 1.8GHz P4? Someone was trying to rip you off on the AMD -- that's a $40 difference (AMD is cheaper).
I don't mean to be a party pooper, but that's why I like people to talk to me first, so I don't say things like this.
Disable VYSNC for testing UT goofball. :D

Stallone got a trinitron and I swear it is amazing. When he got his new system and the Trinitron, the combination jacked up his ability to play UT alot since the refresh rate was so high, it was the smoothest I have ever seen UT running.
oh yeah, AMD ROCKS!!!! :cheese:
Now all I need is a nice 60 or 80GB HD to turn this backup PC into a file server. Rooster, any ideas on HD's? New Egg has some pretty good prices, but I am a poor man and want to find a steal.
Just to think, a few years ago I had a 4GB HD in my old Packard Bell.

It's a 1.8 gig with 512 cache.
He said a 1.9 gig AMD, which I figured was the 1900 (?).
Ah well, upgrading is not yet done. I'll check the sony monitors.
The first thing I did when I installed the GF4 was disable V-sync in the settings.
And you can not p00p on my party, the computAr is rocking. :)
