Who intends to play this game, and with what guild? [Archive]

Still a ways away but I definatly plan on playing the game and will be looking to see where the Lions play. I think I will try Conan first this fall (supposed to be rated M).

I got a chance to try WAR this past weekend at GenCon. Was very rough still of course but still very cool at the same time.

I will probably playing it, at least if the beta turns out to be decent. Same for Calain and maybe 2-3 more guildies that currently still play DAoC and maybe 2-3 more guildies that play nothing or WoW at the moment.

Moonlit Thorns 4 ever unless we all end up on different servers lol

I'll be playing, and most likely on usa servers, so with the Lions. seems a lot of the euro daoc community are going usa with WAR, due to the poor management of the daoc servers in the eu at times

I plan on playing the game and I would like to do so as a Lion. I'm not sure what specific classes are out there but I want to roll a healer-type character for group support.

I expect that I am still in for this. More then anything, what I miss with DAoC is the hordes of people doing everything at once. The days of Muire and standing around MM / Ardee watching newbs wack frogs are gone :(

I'd like to give it a try ... with Lions, of course. But, I have a question:

I liked DAoC back when I played it, but I hated Mythic with all their "working as intended" and zero documentation, and tweaking and nerfing into oblivion, and their general lack of understanding of the game, and their inability to fix things that were obviously broken -- so, I've got a bit of a bad attitude about them that I wouldn't want to have going into a new game. Can anyone tell me that Warhammer will be different?

have you played any MMORPGs that haven't had obvious things wrong with them that haven't ever been fixed? Heck in WoW there is a problem with a level 40 quest in STV that's been that way for over a year.

I think that all MMORPGs have problems like that, that for some reason they chose not to spend the time to fix. DAoC seemed to have a few of them. Actually quite a few with Wardens, but then they just changed those abilities.

I think they try to decide if enough people are going to care that it's that way to fix it or not

Of course not. But ... somebody help me out here. Mythic was really frustrating to deal with the first couple of years, no? If I recall correctly, didn't they purchase the game from someone else? That could have contributed to them seemingly, and frustratingly, not understanding the mechanics of their own game, but I could be remembering wrong about that. Am I the only one?

Don't get me wrong, I'll probably play, just for the sake of hanging out with Lions and having a good time. But it would be nice going in to know that Warhammer will be a little more polished out of the box, and that I won't spend months developing a character only to find out that I've chosen the wrong race and stats because of a lack of knowledge and documentation from Mythic. :p

I just don't want to start with my current "Mythic sucks" attitude. So someone just please tell me that they don't anymore. :)

I think that after 5 years, Mythic has a better idea of what to expect and game mechanics.

DAoC runs quite well right now. While I wouldn't spec as a Ment-Ment, there isn't a game out there which doesn't have a class that is better than the other.

They did develop the game themselves, but the thing that occurred was around the time SI was released, the development team went on strike and instead of giving them a raise, Mythic Entertainment replaced them with different developers.

Mythic developed there first game from scratch completely. This time around everything is layed out for them

-There lore, history, mythos, whatever has been defined and been defined very well by the Warhammer books
-I talked with some of the people at GenCon about this kind of thing and he assured me that when they started the dept. for WAR they were very selective. The major selection point were people who were excited and upbeat about this project.
-They have many new MMOs to look at for what works and what doesn't work, a big change from the researching that was available from DAoC (and even up to TOA) was released.

I don't know if any of you are huge PnP nerds but the guy who did the cartogrophy for Ptolus also did the maps and other content in WAR (the maps in Ptolus are great). Ptolus is the latest setting from Monte Cook (7lbs book...)

Keep in mind also that DAOC was a refreshing change from EQ, and that alone won them a fairly loyal customer base. Since then, as each new MMO brings a new twist, IMO, Mythic has done fairly well with keeping up with them. The last 1.5 years, since Mackey was fired, Mythic has pretty much done a 180 in terms of customer and player response.

If you left before 2 years ago, you might be surprised at the difference. :)

One or two years ... that sounds about right as far as when I last played DAoC. I think I quit playing around the time Frontiers came out.

A bit over 2 years (I can't remember if it was May or June). It was a tough transition, but aside from the "glory days" feeling of OF, I think it was a positive change over all. Just took a while to grow into!

I've been following this game for a couple months. It looks like it might be really fun. I don't know which guild I would play in (was in Carpe Diem on pell) but I'll definitely be on the Destruction side. Ever since DAoC the "good" sides in games (Alliance in WoW, Order in WAR) seem like Albs to me...

Everyone should keep an eye out. One big reason for all the hype and it still being so far away is in reality the game is pretty close to being in beta. The reason it is still so far away though is that they are planning a YEAR long beta.

Along with that year long beta they will having entire guild invites and things like that, especially as they get close to the beta date.

I want to give it a try; I gfigure with nearly 25 yrs of background, they can't mess it up (I'm going to regret saying that) too much. I'm not sure what side I'll play on, but it'd be nice to know people right off the bat :)

I'd really like whoever gets in on that to post. I think it would definitely help us decide sides classes races ect if someone would.
Of course deciding on 1 server would be a definite plus..but I wont hold my breath on that
