View Full Version : Wish me luck...
I just sent off an application to a job at Mythic, in the customer service department. No idea what my chances are, but I figured what the hell, worst I can get is a "no", right?
Will post as soon as I hear anything, if I do

The main thing to know, if you're working for the customer service group for Mythic is the term "working as intended"...its a mantra to those folks :D
Good luck!

I had a good friend who was trying to get in to Mythic as a developer for Warhammer. He'd worked for Games Workshop in an executive capacity.
After a few months of discussion, they offered him a job as a CSR. Apparently they promoted developers from within their CSR ranks. ;)
Needless to say, he declined.

Hey what kinda "executive desisions" did he make for GW? Insert price hike joke here :)

Now why in the world would they promote their CSRs to developers. If a developer is worth more then 2 s**ts he's not going to take a CSR job.
that does not bode well for Warhammer for me

I don't mean to belittle the CSR job whatsoever. It's an honest job like many others. It takes dedication and a $h!tload of patiente (more than many customers deserve) but... putting all the "no offense" disclaimers aside.
They (Mythic) should be a little more careful when they say they promoted people from CSR positions to the development team. Not only it gives their customer base the impression that "uh oh, those stupid CSRs are developing my next game" but also give job applicants the false impression that, provided they can put up with the job for a little while, soon they will be joining the wonderful world "playing my favorite game and getting paid for it" (which is, of course, what many people think game development is all about).
It's kinda like applying for a demolition company because sure, "I'll be the one planting all that l33t tnt nd bl0wing 4ll teh $h!t up." :hump:
edit: oops, meant to say Good Luck, Syri!

maybe, like me, they got stuck in a rut... I'm a developer at heart, but had trouble finding a programming position when i got made redundant, as i didn't have enough 'commercial' experience. ended up in a call centre job, so i just want to get out into something i will enjoy more and will steer me into the direction i want to go.

Sorry Syri,
there are always exceptions to every rule. I used to work customer service for credit cards. Looking back on that now, i can't believe that I did that for over 2 years. So I know exactly how bad it is to do customer service. Not all situations are cut and dry for people that can say no I don't want to do that job.
But coming out and stating that you promoted your CSRs to develop your game is not a good way to instill confidence in the player base either.

They should have just stated that there have been promotions within their ranks and that left positions open in customer service. The people promoted from customer service may have been well qualified for dev work and were just in cs to get their foot in the door or what ever the case may be. But like you said stating they came from cs doesnt look good.
